A tension mounting system and assembly for suspending a flexible sheet material in a taut condition from a generally planar support surface and providing selective tension adjustment of the flexible sheet material is provided. The mounting system and assembly is especially suitable for use in signs displaying advertising material, such as billboards, signboards, and the like.

Tension mounting system and assembly

A replacement roof sheet for replacing a removed roof section of a covered hopper car roof that has cracks radiating from the square corners of a rectangular hatch. The roof sheet has an arcuate cut-out aligned with the hatch opening and an upstanding, arcuate coaming web joined to said roof sheet at said cut-out, the ends of the coaming web forming joints with exposed ends of the roof coaming peripheral of the hatch opening. Two reinforcing members, having dual-angle standards, bridge the joints to reinforce them. Each member has a base portion secured to the roof sheet and the car roof, a first or lower portion conforming to the inward slope of the roof coaming and secured thereto on one side of the joint, and a second or upper portion conforming to the vertical coaming web and secured thereto on the other side of the joint. An end of the roof sheet overhangs an end wall of the car spaced from the hatch and an end sheet depends to said end wall to cover the space therebetween. The end sheet has a lower margin overlapping the exterior surface of the end wall to accommodate variations in dimensions and installations from car to car. Closure blocks seal gaps between the ends of the roof coaming and coaming web; and closure wedges close gaps between the rounded car roof end wall and the planar roof sheet.

Method of reinforcing a covered hopper car hatch

A movable device for restraining freight in a cargo area in a freight transporting vehicle, for use with a track extending along the cargo area at the top side portions of the vehicle. The device includes an upright stanchion having a vertically extending cargo restraining surface on one side normal to the track. A carriage rolls along the track to permit moving the restraining device to a desired position, and locking pins secure the stanchion in that position. A yoke connects the carriage with the stanchion, to provide a support framework for the stanchion that is rigid throughout its entire extent, in the vertical plane that passes through the center of gravity of the stanchion and is normal to the track, from the rollers of the carriage, along the roller axle and any supporting structure, along the yoke member, and across the stanchion to the vertical plane that passes through the center of gravity of the stanchion and is parallel to the track. It is preferred that the connection between the yoke and the upright stanchion be articulated in all horizontal directions, to permit a limited degree of swaying in response to displacement forces applied to the stanchion.

Movable freight restraining device for freight cars and the like

A replacement hasp for a railroad sliding door lock mechanism, a kit for making the hasp, and method for making the replacement using the kit are disclosed in two embodiments. The kit includes a member which partially defines an eye, sized to fit loosely about the existing hasp-retaining link on the car, and an eye-completion member arrayed to mate with the first member and form a replacement hasp when affixed thereto, as by welding with shear welds. In the first embodiment, the first member is generally U-shaped and the second member includes a tongue portion which mates between the ends of the partial-eye-defining member such that the two can be 'telescoped' together to form a replacement hasp of different lengths to accommodate changes in the door or door jamb of the railroad car. The two main members include furrows extending along the parting lines between them so as to aid in welding the main members together and to form a stronger affixture than is possible under the prior commercial practice. The second embodiment is similar to the first but includes a keyway formed through the members and a key which may be inserted when they are mated together in their usual intended position to affix the members together.

Replacement hasp, kit, and method for replacing railroad car lock hasps

A curtain-type lading-restraining device for use in lading-carrying containers which employs decking which is positionable above the floor of the container so as to provide two surfaces for supporting cargo. The lading-restraining curtain includes an upper curtain assembly for positioning above the decking and for cooperation with the cargo on the decking. The upper curtain assembly is suspended from a trolley positioned adjacent the ceiling of the vehicle container. Track channels are provided in each of the sidewalls below the decking for supporting the lower curtain. Sliders are positioned in each of the channels for longitudinal movement therein and for supporting the lower curtain. The lower curtain is connected to the slider through a link chain system and can be positioned to engage cargo on the floor of the container. One end of the support chain includes a detachable hook so that one end of the lower curtain can be stored on the opposite side of the container.

Two-piece curtain-like lading-restraining device

A load-restraining device is disclosed herein for use in lading-carrying vehicles, such as truck trailers. The device includes a curtain which is adjustably suspended from an overhead support that extends laterally across the top of the trailer and is mounted for longitudinal movement therein. The curtain includes laterally-extending pockets, each of which carries a load-restraining belt. Belt hooks on opposite ends of each belt cooperate with belt rails in the sidewalls of the trailer and a belt tensioner or buckle is provided at the center of each belt. The pockets on the curtain are positioned on the side of the curtain opposite the lading-engaging face, so as to maximize the strength of the curtain and are in a manner which inhibits removal of the belts and reduces pilferage. A pair of corner flaps are provided for positioning between the lading and sidewalls so as to restrain lateral movement or bunching of the curtain, and vertical corner protectors are also provided for shielding the lading from the restraining belts as they wrap around the corner edges of the lading adjacent each of the sidewalls of the vehicle. In intercity or over-the-road service, a plurality of identical load-restraining devices can be used to separate the lading into sections.
