Methods, systems, and apparatus can be used to filter packet reflections. In various implementations, packets received on a subscriber side of a device having a source address identifying a service provider device can be dropped. In other implementations, portions of packets forwarded to a subscriber side of a device can be cached and compared to portions of packets received on a subscriber side of the device.

Packet reflection identification in CPE devices

Systems and methods can provide for specifying and enforcing IPv4 and IPv6 CPE limits in a modem device. In some implementations, such systems and methods can inspect a packet originating from CPEs behind a modem to determine whether the packet is an IPv4 or IPv6 packet. Such systems and methods can compare the packet source MAC address to determine whether the address exists in the IPv4 and/or IPv6 CPE tables. The modem can then perform varying actions based on IPv4 or IPv6 CPE limit enforcement mechanisms, thereby alleviating the problem of a single CPE limit enforcement policy for all CPEs.

Specifying and enforcing IPV4 and IPV6 CPE limits

Systems and methods can provide for log storage and retrieval from broadband communications devices. In some implementations, such systems and methods can detect unanticipated errors or failures, can process and store logs, and can operate to transmit the logs to an external central server. In other implementations, an external central server can retrieve stored logs. The logs can be gathered to analyze and resolve problems with the broadband communications devices and to facilitate notification to a central location of potential device and/or customer issues.

Systems and methods can provide for power saving in broadband communications devices. In some implementations, such systems and methods can generate and/or receive interrupts to ascertain external power unavailability, operate on battery power, instruct functional modules to enter power saving mode, await restoration of external power, and instruct modules to resume normal operations. In other implementations, such systems and methods can detect external power unavailability via polling, operate on battery power, instruct any or all of primary and auxiliary processor(s) to enter power saving mode, monitor when external power has been restored, and instruct functional modules to resume normal operation. Power saving mode can reduce the rate of modem battery drain and thus reduce the likelihood of a service outage and extend service duration.

Power saving for broadband communications devices

Methods, systems, and apparatus can be used to prioritize channel scanning. In various implementations, a nonvolatile memory on a CPE device can store downstream channels that a CPE device previously identified as being used by a headend. In some implementations, the nonvolatile memory can be organized or arranged such that DOCSIS 3.0 channels receive preference upon initialization. In other implementations, the selection of the channels from nonvolatile memory can be prioritized to select DOCSIS 3.0 channels over other types of channels.

Prioritized channel scanning

Methods, systems and apparatuses can be used to detect and prevent invalid or unwanted pulses. In various implementations, pulse information received from a telephony device can be used to identify a duration associated with the pulse. Based upon the duration, a determination can be made whether the pulse is invalid.

Methods, systems and apparatuses can be used to detect and prevent invalid or unwanted pulses. In various implementations, a series of dial pulses received from a telephony device can be counted to determine whether the series is valid. Based upon the count, a determination can be made whether the series of dial pulses is invalid.
