A trailer is disclosed having a forward section, a middle section, and a rearward section. The forward section is adapted to be attached to the fifth wheel of a tractor while the rearward section supports the trailer on a set of wheels. The middle section extending between the forward and rearward sections is positionable in at least two load-transporting positions at different heights above the ground. The forward and rearward sections each include fixed support elements and locking pins for securing the middle section to the fixed support elements at each of the load-transporting positions. Rollers are provided to guide the movement of the middle section between the load-transporting positions, at least some of the rollers being easily removed to permit front loading of the middle section. An air bag jack is included to move the front end of the middle between the lower-most load transporting position and a ground contacting front loading position.

Trailer

A trailer is disclosed having a forward section, a middle section, and a rearward section. The forward section is adapted to be attached to the fifth wheel of a tractor while the rearward section supports the trailer on a set of wheels. The middle section extending between the forward and rearward sections is positionable in at least two load-transporting positions at different heights above the ground. The forward and rearward sections each include fixed oblique support elements and locking pins for securing the middle section to the fixed oblique support elements at each of the load-transporting positions. Power actuators are provided for moving the middle section between the load-transporting positions.

An apparatus is disclosed for coupling a tractor to a trailer employing a detachable gooseneck type of connecting means, and has particular utility where loading and unloading is required without force binding of the mechanism. A trailer assembly is described that includes a trailer bed, a gooseneck having an end portion connected to the trailer bed, and a coupling mechanism having a tail member attached to the end portion of the gooseneck. The tail member is located centrally and rearwardly of the end portion of the gooseneck and defines an engaging bar. The rear section of the trailer bed is provided with ground-engaging wheels disposed thereon in supporting relationship, and the front section of the trailer bed has guide means thereat comprising side walls affixed to the guide means and sloping upwardly therefrom, with the guide means being complimentary to the tail member and engageable therewith. The guide means also includes an aperature disposed on the upper side of the front section, and latch means mounted internally of the trailer bed proximate the aperture. The latch means has a latching surface extendable through the aperture for attachment to the engaging bar, and an activator is provided for activating the latch means to couple the latching surface to the engaging bar.

Tractor-trailer coupling means

An apparatus for attaching a tractor with a trailer employing a fixed gooseneck with the gooseneck having a horizontally rearwardly inclined arm for connection with claw means and securement by a pair of dowels slidably mounted to project horizontally from the front end of the load carrying frame, with said dowels being moveable for engagement and disengagement with connecting stirrups on the tail member.
