The anvil has an anvil face and a first staple pocket defined by the anvil face, where the first staple pocket comprises a first cup and a second cup for staple formation. The cartridge has a first staple and a first driver. The first staple, once deployed by the first driver and deformed by the first staple pocket, has a formed configuration in which a first portion of a first staple leg and a second portion of a second staple leg are bent relative to a crown and cross the midpoint of the crown and one of the first portion and the second portion overlaps the other of the first portion and the second portion.

End effectors, surgical stapling devices, and methods of using same

An end effector for use by a surgeon to staple an anatomical structure of a patient during a surgical procedure includes an anvil and a cartridge. The anvil has an anvil face and a first staple pocket defined by the anvil face, where the first staple pocket comprises a first cup and a second cup for staple formation. The cartridge has a first staple, the first staple having a first open leg with a first tip, a second open leg with a second tip, and a first crown coupling the first open leg and the second open leg, and a first driver. The first staple, once deployed by the first driver and deformed by the first staple pocket, comprises the first tip and the second tip crossing the first midline axis of the first crown in a formed configuration.

Each of the anvil and the cartridge has a face that is positionable on the anatomical structure. The anvil is coupled to the cartridge at first and second ends. A food intake restriction device for forming a restriction in a patient's gastro-intestinal tract and non-invasively communicating pressure data regarding the restriction to an external monitor. The device includes a food intake restriction device implanted substantially about a patient's gastro-intestinal tract to form a restricted opening in the tract. A port is connected to the restriction device. The port contains a working fluid for affecting the size of the restricted opening. A pressure sensing system communicates with the working fluid to measure the pressure of the working fluid. A transmitter communicates the measured fluid pressure to the external monitor.

A sense head comprises a plurality of coils and a needle window. The sense head is operable to receive RF signals communicated from a needle target such as an injection port located within a patient. A user interface is configured to visually display an indication to a user relating to the positioning and orientation of the sense head relative to the needle target. The positioning and orientation may be determined based on RF signals received by the coils in the sense head. With the sense head positioned based on information provided through the visual display, the user may insert a needle through the needle window to reach the needle target. The sense head may also receive communications relating to the pressure of fluid in an implanted device. The user interface may further display information relating to the fluid pressure in the implanted device.

System and method for determining implanted device positioning and obtaining pressure data

A restriction system, such as an adjustable gastric band, for forming a restriction in a patient and non-invasively communicating pressure data regarding the restriction to an external monitor. The system includes a restriction device for implantation in a patient to form a restriction. The system further includes an implanted port connected to the restriction device. The port contains a working fluid for affecting the size of the restriction. The system further includes a pressure sensing system in communication with the working fluid for measuring the pressure of the working fluid and transmitting pressure measurement data to an external monitor.

Device for non-invasive measurement of fluid pressure in an adjustable restriction device

An applier for delivering and deploying a biopsy marker to a surgical biopsy site is disclosed. The applier has a ferrule with a forming surface to form the marker on the distal end of a flexible tube. The marker is held at the distal end of the flexible tube in a marker holder. A forming rod slidable in the flexible tube urges the marker into contact with the forming surface of the ferrule for marker formation. The distal end of the flexible tube is delivered through an egress tube, which in turn is delivered through a biopsy cannula adapted for taking the biopsy sample. The egress tube has an alignment hub at its proximal end adapted for orientational alignment with a hub receiver on the biopsy cannula. When properly aligned, the egress opening of the distal end of the egress tube is orientationally aligned with the biopsy port of the biopsy cannula for proper delivery and deployment of the marker.
