A power output control and compensation (PCC) circuit operates within a distributed energy resource (DER) system. The PCC circuit is located in a battery power conversion system (PCS) and includes an input terminal to connect with a power source and an output terminal to connect with an electrical panel or load. A current sensing device is coupled between the input and the output terminals to measure a power level of the power source. A relay is coupled between the current sensing device and the output terminal and a processor selectively connects power from the power source to the electrical panel or the load based on the measured power level or based on other power measurements within the DER system. PCS-control of multiple power sources decreases cycle times for controlling distributed energy resources.

Output control and compensation for AC coupled systems

An automatic battery recovery system includes a power conversion system (PCS) coupled between an AC power line and a DC power bus. The PCS is configured to convert between DC power from a battery system and AC power from the AC power line. An automatic recovery control (ARC) circuit is coupled in parallel with the PCS between the AC power line and the DC power bus. The ARC circuit is configured to convert AC power from the AC power line into DC power for powering the PCS based on a state-of-charge (SOC) of the battery system. The PCS includes an inverter coupled between the AC power line and the battery system and a digital signal processor (DSP) configured to command the inverter to charge the battery system from the AC power line while the DSP is being powered through the ARC circuit.

Automatic recovery control

A power conversion system (PCS) seamlessly transitions between different control modes. A digital signal processor (DSP) may operate in a first control mode where a first setpoint for operating the inverter is associated with a first one of the AC power, DC voltage, or DC current. The DSP then seamlessly transitions into a second control mode where a second setpoint used for operating the inverter is associated with second one of the AC power, DC voltage, and DC current. The DSP also may seamlessly transition from the first or second control mode to an off-grid mode by operating the inverter based on an AC voltage setpoint generated by the inverter. The seamless control mode transitions allow the PCS to more effectively control the inverter output using feedback parameters other than just the output power.

Seamless transitions between control modes

A step wave power converter comprises multiple different bridge circuits configured to convert DC voltage inputs into AC voltage outputs. A controller is configured to estimate an average voltage output from the multiple different bridge circuits for controlling the current output from the multiple different bridge circuits. The number of bridge circuits needed to provide the estimated average output voltage is identified and the identified bridge circuits controlled during a next switching period to generate a combined inverter output voltage that corresponds with the estimated average output voltage. In another embodiment, one or more transformers are associated with the different bridge circuits. Inductors are coupled between the bridge circuits and the primary windings of the associated transformers. The inductors filter the current output from the bridge circuits prior to feeding the current into the transformers.

Prediction scheme for step wave power converter and inductive inverter topology

A step wave power converter includes a plurality of transformers each configured to receive a Direct Current (DC) voltage from one or more independently generated power sources. Each transformer comprising a primary winding and a secondary winding. A plurality of bridge circuits control different DC voltage inputs from one of the multiple independently generated power sources into the primary windings. One or more processors are configured to use a Phase-Shifted Carrier Pulse Width Modulation (PSCPWM) scheme to operate the bridge circuits in order to produce steps for a step wave Alternating Current (AC) output from the secondary windings.
