A fuel metering apparatus is shown as having a throttle body with induction passage means therethrough and a throttle valve for controlling flow through the induction passage means; fuel under superatmospheric pressure is metered through a multi-stage fuel metering valve assembly and such metered fuel is supplied as to the induction passage means; the multi-stage metering valve assembly is shown as having a valve member with a step-like surface reciprocatingly cooperating with a metering orifice of fixed effective flow area so that during a first range of metered fuel flow a first portion of the step-like surface is effective for cooperating with the metering orifice in determining the rate of metered fuel flow while during a second range of metered fuel flow a second portion of the step-like surface is effective for cooperating with the metering orifice in determining the rate of metered fuel flow.

An air valve means is shown as having a pressure responsive diaphragm positioned valve member which is positioned as to supply controlled rates of engine idle air flow to the associated combustion engine; the positioning of such valve member is in response to forces created as by pressure differential, across the diaphragm, the magnitude of which is controllable by associated control apparatus responsive as to indicia of engine operation.

A fuel metering apparatus, for supplying metered fuel to an associated combustion engine, has an idle fuel metering and supply system comprising adjustable valving means which, in turn, comprises a discharge orifice means and cooperating valving member which is adjustably selectively positioned with respect to such orifice means in order to thereby establish a desired metered rate of fuel flow through the thusly determined effective flow area of the orifice means for a particular pressure differential thereacross; the adjustable valving member is generally contained within a cooperating body member or portion and access to the valving member, subsequent to it being selectively positioned, is prevented by closure members placed in position after the said selective positioning of said valving member.

A power valve assembly for use in combination with a carburetor for an internal combustion engine, where such carburetor has structure defining a fuel reservoir, is shown as having a valve body and cooperating valve member effective for opening and closing related passage means leading to the carburetor induction passage for at times supplying additional enrichening fuel flow thereto; a pressure responsive movable diaphragm has an associated actuator connected thereto and is exposed to a source of engine vacuum of varying magnitude as to at times move the valve member in a direction causing the valve member to move relative to the valve body and permit the flow of such enrichening fuel flow; the direction of movement of the diaphragm and associated actuator describing a path which is other than parallel to the path described by the direction of movement of the valve member.
