An active antenna array for use in a beamforming antenna system. The antenna array includes multicarrier power amplifiers coupled to each antenna element wherein the outputs of the multicarrier power amplifiers are linearized. The antenna array communicates with a base station control unit located at the base of the cellular tower in digital baseband. Fiber optic transmission lines couple the antenna arrays with the base station control unit. Multicarrier linear power amplifiers may be coupled to the antenna elements to linearize the outputs of the antenna elements. Alternatively, a predistortion circuit is coupled to the antenna elements to linearize the outputs of the antenna elements when multicarrier power amplifiers are used.

Active array antenna and system for beamforming

A distributed antenna system comprising a plurality of antenna elements, duplexers and amplifiers, each amplifier and duplexer operatively coupled with one of said antenna elements and mounted closely adjacent to the associated antenna element in such a manner as incidences of insertion loss, noise and system failure are reduced.

Distributed active transmit and/or receive antenna

Several feed-forward RF power amplifiers configured for use in a distributed array, each having a main amplifier within a carrier null loop and an error amplifier within an error loop. Each carrier null loop includes a switch configured to selectively disable the carrier null loop, thereby disabling the carrier null loop, and injecting an actual RF signal into the error loop allowing the error loop to be optimized using the actual RF signal.

Optimization of error loops in distributed power amplifiers

A distributed active antenna includes a power module having a parallel combination of power amplifiers for driving each antenna element of the distributed active antenna. A predistortion linearization circuit may be coupled to each power module to linearize the output of each antenna element of the distributed active antenna.

Multicarrier distributed active antenna

A zero-bias bypass apparatus for a low noise amplifier includes a bypass circuit, and a switching circuit coupled with a low noise amplifier and with the bypass circuit. The switching circuit includes one or more solid state devices responsive to absence of a control bias for switching an RF input signal from said amplifier to the bypass circuit with a low insertion loss and high isolation.
