An optical fiber termination device is described which includes first and second housings supported for relative movement therebetween. The first housing supports an optical fiber cable and is insertable into a second housing which supports a cutting device for severing the cable and providing a termination end face. The composite structure is then insertable into a termination housing to provide optical connection with a further optical device.

Optical fiber termination device having cutting means

An optical fiber connection apparatus includes a pair of mating connector halves each accommodating at least one optical fiber. A plug half is insertable into a receptacle half to provide optical connection between the fibers therein. The receptacle portion includes a movable cover supported thereon. The cover is movable from a first position covering the receptale and thereby protecting the fiber therein to a second position opening the receptacle to allow for insertion of the plug. The cover is also movable to lock the plug into the receptacle.

Connection apparatus for optical fibers

A fiber optic connector including a fiber securing ferrule which permits fiber cleaving therein. The ferrule includes a slot through its outer surface and internally of the end wall thereof to permit cleaving at a point recessed from the wall. The cleaved fiber end face is positioned within the ferrule thus providing protection thereto.

Optical fiber connection assembly

An optical fiber retaining member for insertion into a tubular optical cable. The retaining member includes a fiber accommodating surface for supporting the fiber and placing the fiber in frictional engagement between the inner wall of the tubular cable and the fiber accommodating surface. A plurality of fibers extending from a single cable can be supported in similar fashion with a retaining member having a plurality of fiber accommodating surfaces.

Optical fiber retainer

A composite fiber cutting and terminating apparatus includes parent and insert housings supported for relative movement, the parent housing supporting therein both a terminating device, such as a photodiode, and a cutting device. The insert housing has a fiber receiving channel. Upon movement of the insert housing into the parent housing, the fiber is retentively engaged by the insert housing and is cut to define a termination end face and the termination end face is disposed in registration with the termination device.

Fiber optic connector having operatable fiber retention means

A composite fiber cutting and terminating apparatus includes first and second housings supported for relative movement, the first housing supporting therein both a terminating device, such as a photodiode, and a cutting device. The second housing retentively engages an optical fiber. Upon relative movement of the housings, the fiber is initially cut to define a termination end face and the termination end face is thereafter placed in registration with the detention device.
