When the preferred voltage source for a static transfer switch is a UPS, there can be a brief interruption in the voltage received from the UPS while the UPS is switching from economy mode to normal mode. Operation of the static transfer switch can be improved during such voltage disturbances. Specifically, the static transfer switch may be in data communication with the UPS and thereby made aware that the voltage disturbance is temporary. As a result, the static transfer switch can avoid an unnecessary transfer to an alternate voltage source.

Techniques for improving operation of static transfer switches during voltage disturbances

A UPS includes an input that receives first power from a utility source to power a load and receives second power from the utility source. The load is separate from the UPS. An inverter receives when in a first mode, the first and second power and when in a second mode, the second power and not the first power. The second power is used to power the inverter. A bypass circuit is connected to the input and bypasses the inverter to supply the first power to an output of the UPS when operating in the second mode. A control module detects a voltage at the output of the UPS, integrates the voltage to generate a first sum, and subsequent to completing a transition between the first and second modes, adjusts an output voltage of the inverter based on the first sum to balance the voltage of the UPS.

Systems and methods for balancing UPS output voltages during transitions between operating modes

A method is disclosed for reducing an influence of voltage ripple on battery test measurements of battery cells coupled in series that form a direct current (DC) bus. A calibration operation is used to obtain a ratiometric difference between first and second series connected battery cells of the DC bus, which is indicative of a variance in their respective output voltages. Voltage measurements across each of the two cells may then be obtained at least substantially simultaneously. The ratiometric difference may be used to modify the voltage measurement taken across the second cell to produce a modified voltage measurement of the second cell. A difference between the measured voltage across the first battery cell and the modified voltage measurement may then be determined, which represents a filtered DC test voltage that has substantially all of the voltage ripple removed therefrom.

System and method for improved accuracy in battery resistance measurement systems

An uninterruptible power supply includes a rectifier coupled to an input of an uninterruptible power supply and converts a first alternating current having a first alternating current voltage to a direct current. An inverter is coupled to an output of the uninterruptible power supply and converts the direct current to a second alternating current having a second alternating current voltage. A bypass switch bypasses the rectifier and the inverter and provides a bypass power from the input to the output when in a bypass state. A control module switches the bypass switch to the bypass state when in a bypass mode and switches the bypass switch to a non-bypass state when in a UPS mode. The control module adjusts the second alternating current voltage between first and second voltage levels when in an adaptive voltage control mode after switching from the bypass mode to the UPS mode.

UPS adaptive output voltage control systems

Methods and systems are disclosed for automatically tracking and controlling the capacity ratings of UPS units. The methods and systems provide a central server or repository for storing the capacity ratings, grant kVA and grant code authorized for each UPS unit along with a unique security key for each unit. When a customer purchases a capacity upgrade, the server updates the capacity rating for the customer's unit and issues an upgrade grant that includes the new rating and the grant code. The upgrade grant may thereafter be downloaded by a service technician and used to upgrade the unit. Alternatively, the upgrade grant may be downloaded directly to the UPS unit, and the unit's software and/or firmware may perform the upgrade automatically. In either case, the upgrade may be performed through a software modification, thus eliminating the need for the technician to physically swap out hardware. Such an arrangement helps ensure that only authorized capacity upgrades are performed.

Adaptive capacity power supply

The present disclosure provides a method and system using a power protector, such as an uninterruptible power supply (power protector) or a power line conditioner. An input of the power protector can be coupled to an output of one or more of circuit breakers using electrical buss bars for unique modularity and easy installation and replacement. Further, an input of a second set of circuit breakers can be coupled to an output of the power protector to backfeed the power through the second set of circuit breakers and out through the buss bar to one or more electrical loads. Additional power protectors can be used for capacity and/or redundancy. A stacked buss bar system can be used that consolidates the system into a compact assembly heretofore unknown in the industry. In at least some embodiments, the system can be compatible with standard panelboards having circuit breakers disposed therein.

Adaptive power system with improved efficiency and distribution space reduction

An uninterruptible power supply is disclosed that includes a digital controller comprising a plurality of microprocessors. These microprocessors are programmed and arranged to provide various control features heretofore unavailable using analog controllers of the prior art.
