A method and system are disclosed for managing hydrate formation in a process that converts a hydrocarbon stream into Cunsaturates, such as ethylene and/or acetylenes. The method includes adding a hydrate inhibitor to a hydrocarbon stream to lower the hydrate formation point of the mixture stream from an initial hydrate formation point (H) of the hydrocarbon stream to a depressed hydrate formation point (H) of the mixture stream. Then, the mixture stream is depressurized to adiabatically cool the stream to a temperature (T), wherein the H&#x3c;T&#x3c;H. Then, at least a portion of the mixture stream is vaporized and the vaporized portion of the mixture stream is separated from the unvaporized portion of the mixture stream. Once separated, at least a portion of the vaporized portion is converted into product, such as ethylene and/or acetylene.

Method and apparatus for managing hydrate formation in the processing of a hydrocarbon stream

Disclosed is a system of making an olefin derivative from a dilute olefin feed. Dilute olefin is sent to an olefin reaction unit to form an olefin derivative product. The olefin derivative product is recovered from the reaction unit while a vent stream is also removed. Olefin is separated from the vent stream, and the olefin is sent to the olefin reaction unit for additional processing.

The volatile impurities removed as overhead from tower can be recycled as stream to the oxidation reactor where they act as oxidation promoters thereby optionally allowing for a bromine-free oxidation process for dialkyl aromatic hydrocarbons.

The catalytic reaction systems may be selectivated with organometallic compounds, compounds of elements selected from Groups 1 through 16, coke, and mixtures thereof. Using this process, catalyst stability and life is improved.
