A method of controlling corrosion-related plant operation costs is provided, the method including: accumulating real-time corrosion measurements relating to a plant operation; calculating a relative degree of corrosion value that includes consideration of the real-time corrosion measurements; comparing the relative degree of corrosion value to an expected corrosion progression value associated with a predetermined target maintenance cycle; and adjusting a plant operation based on a comparison of the relative degree of corrosion value to the expected corrosion progression value associated with a predetermined target maintenance cycle. An apparatus for controlling corrosion-related plant operation costs is also provided.

Method and means for tracking corrosion-related plant operation costs

The present invention relates generally to thermal imaging systems and methods and uses therefor, and in a particular though non-limiting embodiment, to a method of detecting corrosion under insulation, as well as corrosion-related material data associated therewith. The system utilizes advanced infrared imaging video cameras to detect characteristic signatures of wet thermal traits on process equipment. Various embodiments of the invention integrate equipment, automation, and algorithms to form a method for identifying wet thermal insulation by scanning multiple locations along insulated piping, tanks, or other manufacturing equipment. Such scans can occur individually, sequentially, or simultaneously, with the results then being stored and comparatively analyzed. Further embodiments comprise tracking the approximate time of exposure to moisture, prediction of the corrosion rates for underlying insulated metal substrates, and measuring wall thicknesses along either predetermined random portions of the metal substrate.

Method and system for detecting corrosion under insulation

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for detection of hydrogen sulfide in downhole operations. A downhole tool is provided with a coupon adapted to react at varying degrees to exposure to concentrations of hydrogen sulfide. The downhole tool is positioned in the wellbore with the coupon(s) exposed to downhole fluids. A reaction to a change in the coupon, such as coloration, is used to determine the presence and concentration of hydrogen sulfide.

Method and apparatus for hydrogen sulfide monitoring

The subject matter of this invention is directed to compositions and compounds to minimize hydrogen charging and hydrogen induced cracking of steels comprising, in one embodiment, a propylene diamine compound and in another a carrier and propylene diamines. Preferably, the composition of that embodiment is comprised of a hydrocarbon carrier and 1,3 propylene diamines. Alternatively, compositions of the present invention may be comprised of a carrier and octadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide. In addition, where the environment dictates, the composition of the present invention may be comprised of a carrier, at least one 1,3 propylene diamine and octadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide.

Compositions and compounds to minimize hydrogen charging and hydrogen

Certain high strength alloys lacking resistance to hydrogen embrittlement are cold worked and heat treated utilizing critical preselected conditions to result in a unique alloy having increased resistance to hydrogen embrittlement without unacceptable loss of strength. It is theorized that this unexpected improved resistance correlates with the concentration of certain elements, such as phosphorus and sulfur as impurities on the crystallographic boundary surfaces of the alloy.
