A harness pad which is adapted for retrofit attachment to or inclusion as an original component of a safety seat and to interface with prescribed portions of the harness system thereof, the harness pad being uniquely configured to extend over or span the top of the shoulder of a child secured within the safety seat to significantly impede any potential forward excursion of the child. In another embodiment, the harness pad is adapted for retrofit attachment to or inclusion as an original component of a booster seat and interface to a portion of the existing vehicle seat belt or restraining system used to maintain a child therein, such harness pad likewise being uniquely configured to extend over or span the top of the shoulder of a child secured within the booster seat to significantly impede any potential forward excursion of the child.

The child safety seat includes a seat body having a seat bottom and a seat back. The seat bottom is slidably connected to a first portion of the base and the seat back is slidably connected to a second portion of the base. The seat body is movable relative to the base, namely, between a resting position and ride down position. A dampening member is connected between the seat body and the base for dampening/retarding the movement of the seat body from the resting position to the ride down position. The dampening member is preferably partially oriented yarn that is no longer usable after use, such as in the event of an accident. The recline angle of the seat body relative to the base is adjustable.

A device for locking to a vehicle seat having a child car seat mounting system includes a pair of pawl assemblies with hooks that connect to the loops of a child car seat mounting system. The hooks are spring-actuated pawls. The device includes two indicator windows that can respectively display the open or locked status of the first hook and the second hook, which move in unison and also lock and open in unison. The indicator windows separately confirms the condition of both of the hooks. A button is interconnected to both of the hooks to simultaneously control opening and locking thereof. The button is also interconnected to a ratchet to permit simultaneous relocation of the hooks for custom adjustment. A child car seat can be mounted to the device to secure the child seat to a vehicle seat that includes a child car seat mounting system.

The present invention provides an adjustable child restraint device, namely, a juvenile safety seat. The safety seat preferably includes a backrest and a pair of side guards that protect the body and shoulder of a person, such as a small child. Each of the pair of side guards have a top end and a bottom end and each are respectively pivotally connected about an axis to the backrest at their bottom ends and movable between a closed position and an open position so that the distance between the respective bottom ends of the side guards remains substantially constant and the distance between the respective top ends of the side guards is adjustable by pivoting movement of the side guards. A curved guide means is disposed in communication with the side guards for guiding movement of the side guards.

Energy absorbing webbing is provided for use in child safety seat and child restraint devices. A harness system includes energy-absorbing regions into the construction of the harness to allow some release or extension of the harness during use. The energy-absorbing regions of the harness are formed using energy-absorbing webbing in a given region or regions to permit the webbing to extend or elongate so that strong forces are not fully and directly imparted to the child. The energy-absorbing region may be installed at various positions within the child safety seat and harness system and may be incorporated into the child safety harness as original equipment or as a retrofit feature.

The unique folding child vehicle seat () includes a seat back member () and a seat bottom member () that is pivotally connected thereto. The seat bottom () is pivotally connected to the seat back () in the unique location of a selected distance from the bottom edge of the seat back member. A support member () is provided proximal to the bottom edge of the seat back (). The seat bottom member () is pivotable between a closed position where the lower surface of the seat bottom member () rests on the support member () to provide a unique cantilevered seat configuration. Vertically oriented plates () provide an internal framework for added strength. Also, the seat () may be of a non-folding configuration where L-shaped vertically oriented plates () provide the internal framework.

An adjustable seat belt device for positioning a shoulder belt relative to a lap belt of a passenger restraint system includes an elongated strap. A first fastening element is attached to the first end of the elongated strap where the first fastening element is removably engageable with the lap belt of a passenger restraint system. A second fastening element is adjustably attached to the second end of the elongated strap where the second fastening element is removably engageable with the shoulder belt of a passenger restraint system. A length of loop material is provided in the gap between the leading edge of the flap and the plate to prevent the exposed fasteners from catching on clothing, and the like.

An apparatus () for warming a vessel (), such as a baby bottle with milk or formula therein, includes a panel of expandable material () having a number of flexible heating elements () embedded therein. The expandable material includes an outer layer of neoprene rubber () and an inner layer of stretchable polyester material (), such as lycra. The heating elements () are finger-like in construction and can flexibly adjust relative to one another to closely accommodate and conform to a baby bottle () inserted into the apparatus ().
