A plural-layer protective coating placeable adjacent the outside surface of a liquid fuel container. The coating, differentially in two, different embodiments, includes (a) a self-sealing, anti-fuel-leakage, elastomeric-response layer having an inside face disposable directly in contact with such a container's outside surface, and having an outside face spaced from its inside face, (b) an intumescence-response layer, absent in one principal embodiment, and present in the other, having an inside face, when present, disposed adjacent the outside face in the elastomeric-response layer, formed of an intumescence putty material, and having an outside face, and (c) a packetized, burst-reactive, flame-suppression layer including plural, side-by-side-adjacent, independently burst-reactive packets, each containing, burst-releasably, a powdered flame-suppression agent, these packets collectively defining an inner side for the flame-suppression layer which is disposed, depending upon coating embodiment, either adjacent the outside face in the elastomeric-response layer, or adjacent the intumescence response layer's outside face.

Plural layer, plural-action protective coating for liquid fuel container

A method for spray-creating a composite-material layer on the outside surface of a liquid container to defeat liquid leakage following a projectile penetration of the container. The method includes (a) defining a by-weight percentage blend of two penetration-reaction materials, where the contribution of one such material, an initially liquid and wet-sprayable, but subsequently curable-to-dry, high-elastomeric body-forming material, is larger than that of the other material, which takes the form of a population of dry, liquid-imbibing bead elements, (b) creating weight-percentage-differentiated, simultaneous sprays of these two materials for contact-blending, during spraying, into a composite spray en route in the air toward the region of a target liquid container, and (c) as a part of such creating, controlling the amount of en route, inter-material, contact blend time between the two materials.

Barrier-coating layer application method

An anti-puncture, water-leak-inhibiting, self-sealing, coating structure for application selectively to inside and/or outside portions of a boat hull. The coating structure, in operative condition with respect to such a hull portion, includes a body of continuous-phase, non-water-reactive, high-elastomeric-material, and, embedded within that body, in an initially shrouded and non-exposed condition guarded nominally against any contact with external water, a distribution of water-reactive, water-imbiber beads.

Marine-vessel, anti-puncture, self-sealing, water-leak protection

An embedded-object composite product including a solid-state mass of PET, an object embedded in the PET material mass, and a zone possessing a continuous material-density gradient in the PET material mass, with more-dense PET material residing closely adjacent the embedded object, and less-dense PET material residing more distant from that object. This product is produced effectively by non-destructively heating the PET mass from its solid state to allow it to flow as a liquid, by then pressing the object into the heated PET mass to perform object embedment and to create a declining PET-material density in the region adjacent, and progressing from adjacent, the embedded object, and by thereafter cooling the mass to re-solidify it.

Method of making an embedded-object and composite-material product

A mobile transform structure having an openable/closeable trailer body which is reversibly transformable between a closed, transportable, tractor-trailer mode and an open, ground-stabilized, spray-booth mode for receiving, and armor spray-coating, a selected surface in a subject wheeled vehicle at the location of that vehicle. The transform structure includes, in addition to the trailer body, a deployable canopy structure useable, with the trailer body open, to form a canopied spray enclosure for receiving a subject vehicle, and a trailer-self-contained, armor spray-coating system operable, when a wheeled vehicle is received in the enclosure, to armor spray-coat a selected surface in that vehicle. The method of the invention includes (a) transporting the closed trailer body to the site of such a vehicle, (b) opening that body at that site to transform it to a spray enclosure adapted for the entering and exiting of such a vehicle, and (c) and within the enclosure, and utilizing an armor spray-coating system which is self-contained on the trailer body, armor spray-coating a received vehicle.

Mobile, armor spray-coating transform structure

A method, and a self-sealing, layer-effect, stealth-reaction liner, for sealing against fuel leakage from the wound-punctured wall of an FT synthetic liquid fuel container. The liner includes (a) an elastomeric body defined by spaced, opposite faces, formed of a material which is non-reactive to FT fuel, and (b) nominally shrouded in a region within the liner body, inwardly of the faces, a distribution of liquid-imbiber beads which react to contact with FT fuel to initiate liquid-imbibing and material-swelling actions. The method includes (a) preparing, for installation in such a container, a liner with a non-fuel-reactive, substantially continuous-material elastomeric body having opposite faces, and (b) within that body, a non-facially exposed, normally body-shrouded, central distribution of fuel-reactive liquid-imbiber beads.

Impact-protection slip-plate structure and methodology involving (a) a generally planar, plural-layer, outside-jacketed, shock-absorbing barrier assembly positionable relative to the human anatomy in a location adjacent a body zone to be protected, and (b), disposed within that assembly, a generally planar, friction-reduced slip-plate organization including a pair of facially confronting, generally planar slip-plate sub-structures disposed on opposite sides of a friction-reduced slip plane, responsive to an impact occurring along a line which lies at a angle other than normal to the slip plane to produce relative-motion impact-initiated slippage of the two slip sub-structures with respect to one another along opposite sides of the slip plane.

Impact-protection slip-plate structure and methodology

A head-pressure-variant, self-healing, anti-liquid-leak coating for the outside of an upright wall in a liquid container. This coating possesses a thickness which varies from smaller toward larger advancing downwardly along a coated container wall. Preferred embodiments of the coating include: (a) one whose overall thickness varies in a linear way; (b) another whose thickness varies in a staged/stepped manner; and (c) a third whose thickness varies in a smooth, non-linear way. In all embodiments, the coating includes plural layers having interlayer-thickness relationships which are the same throughout the coating.

Progressive thickness anti-leak barrier coating

A method for establishing a sprayable stream of composite material for spray-applying to a target surface to create thereon a defined composite-material coating designed for defeating a liquid leak from a puncture wound created in the wall of a container holding liquid of a particular character, where the target surface is on a side of that wall. The method includes (a) initiating a pair of respective sub-flows of two, precursor elastomeric materials intended for later blending to create a formed, elastomeric body, (b) at a point downstream from such initiating, introducing a flow of plural, liquid-imbiber beads which are reactive to the mentioned, particular-character liquid, (c) in a user-chooseable manner upstream from where such later blending takes place, merging the flow of beads with at least one of the two sub-flows of elastomeric materials, (d) following such merging, blending the two sub-flows, and (e) thereafter spray-applying the merged and blended flows/sub-flows to a target surface thus to create the desired, defined composite-material coating.

Method for creating and applying liquid-container barrier coating

A layered panel structure featuring a first layer formed of non-thermoformable material, having opposite faces, a thickness T as measured between its opposite faces, and an effective layer density d, and a second layer formed of thermoformable material having opposite faces, with one face in the second layer being thermally bonded to one face in the first layer, and with the second layer having a thickness t, as measured between its opposite faces which is smaller than T, and an effective layer density D which is greater than d. The thermal bond between the layers is formed, during thermoforming of the panel structure, by a melt and flow of resin contained in the thermoformable layer material.

A method utilizing a spray instrumentality for spray-applying to a target surface in a target zone a defined, composite-material layer which is to play a role in defeating a liquid leak from a puncture wound created in the wall of a container holding liquid of a particular character. The method includes the steps of (a) initiating a flow toward the spray instrumentality of liquid elastomeric body-forming material, (b) at a selectable point downstream from where such initiating takes place, introducing a flow of plural, liquid-imbiber bead elements which are relevant to the mentioned particular-character liquid, (c) in a user-chooseable manner in relation to the introducing step, merging the two flows, and (d) following such merging, applying the merged flows to a target surface, thus to create the desired, defined composite-material layer which takes the form of a body of elastomeric material containing a distribution of liquid-imbiber elements.

A deployable marker banner structure and system including (a) an elongate, rollable/unrollable fabric body having opposite ends, a long axis, and opposite faces, (b) shape-forming biasing structure operatively connected to the body, applying shape-forming biasing forces thereto at plural, spaced locations distributed along the body's long axis in a manner whereby, with the body unrolled, the biasing structure produces complex, alternating, longitudinally distributed convex and concave topography portions in the body's faces, with at least one each of such convex and concave topography portions disposed in each face of the body, and with each convex topography portion in one face of the body corresponding, and being complementary, to a companion concave topography portion located directly in the opposite face of the body, and (c) facial visibility-enhancing structure operatively present at least on the convex topography portions in the body's faces, urged by the mentioned topography portions into complex convex curvatures.

Deployable marker banner structure and system

A bulk, generally elastomeric and pliable, layered mat formed to permit selective trimming into size-chosen mat trims/tiles, each of which is structured to perform as a self-puncture(wound)-sealing, defined-liquid-reactive, anti-puncture-leakage coating element applicable bondedly to the outside surface of a selected wall in a container holding the defined-liquid. The mat is made by preparing it as a generally elastomeric, pliable, layered arrangement of coatings formed of self-puncture-healing, defined-liquid-reactive, anti-puncture-leakage material, or materials; and is applied for use in relation to a selected container wall by (1) trimming, from the prepared mat, one or more trims/tiles shaped for specific use on the outside surface of that wall; and (2) applying and surface-bonding the one or more trims/tiles to the outside surface of the selected wall.

Adhereable, pre-fabricated, self-healing, anti-puncture coating for liquid container

Barrier structure for furnishing, selectively and variously, penetration and fire-threat protection on the outside surface of a target structure. The barrier structure includes a high-elastomeric coating having an inner face bonded to such a surface, an exposed outer face, and, within this coating, at least one elastomeric layer region extending to the outer face, and containing an embedded distribution of intumescence elements. Basic variations of this structure include (a) an additional layer region which is formed with elastomeric-material including an embedded distribution of liquid-imbiber beads, and (b) an additional layer region which is formed purely of elastomeric material. The elastomeric material employed, and the embedded liquid-imbiber beads where included, react to liquid petroleum-based substances (1) to imbibe such liquid, (2) to swell in size as a result of such imbibing, and (3) to coagulate into a sticky mass.
