A thermal transfer ribbon comprising a substrate and an ink layer is disclosed. The ink layer comprises a partially crystalline polymer which becomes soft at a time when the crystalline portion begins to melt, the polymer derived from an acid containing at least one carboxylic acid moiety.

Disclosed is the use of a novel diester as an additive to a toner, the ester being of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is of the formula ##STR2## being independently selected from the group consisting of phenyl, substituted phenyl, aliphatic and substituted aliphatic. In one embodiment a toner containing this additive is used in a flash fusing system whereby it acts as a stabilizer thus eliminating decomposition of the toner. The additive can also be used to lower the toner melt viscosity and the fusing temperature of the toner.

A method is provided for forming encapsulated particles comprising forming a dispersion of core material in a solution of wall material in a solvent; drowning said dispersion in at least one liquid which is miscible with the solvent and in which at least the wall material is substantially insoluble, to effect phase-separation of said wall material, whereby said wall material deposits about said core material forming a dilute dispersion of particles comprising said core material encapsulated with said wall material in said liquid, and recovering said encapsulated particles from said liquid.
