A capacitance sensing device includes a transmit (TX) generator for generating a sequence of receive (RX) signals by applying each TX signal pattern in a sequence of TX signal patterns to a set of sensor electrodes. For each TX signal pattern in the sequence of TX signal patterns, and for each subset of three or more contiguous sensor electrodes of the set of sensor electrodes, the TX generator applies to the subset one of a first excitation signal and a second excitation signal. The plurality of subsets includes at least half of the sensor electrodes in the set of sensor electrodes. The capacitance sensing device also includes a sequencer circuit coupled with the TX generator. For each TX signal pattern in the sequence of TX signal patterns, the sequencer circuit determines a next subsequent TX signal pattern in the sequence based on a circular rotation of the TX signal pattern. The capacitance sensing device also includes a processing block coupled with the TX generator. The processing block detects a presence of an object proximate to the set of sensor electrodes based on a measure of correlation between the sequence of RX signals and a predetermined function.

Hover sensing with multi-phase self-capacitance method

The sensing circuit includes including first input of a first electrode, a first set of inputs of a first set of two or more electrodes forming a first intersection and a second intersection, and a second set of inputs of a second set of two or more electrodes forming the second intersection and a third intersection. The sensing circuit includes a scan control circuit, coupled to the touch panel of electrodes, to concurrently select the sets of electrodes via a multiplexer. The touch sensing circuit includes an analog front end configured to generate digital values representative of mutual capacitances of a first and second unit cell, wherein the first unit cell comprises the first and second intersections and the second unit cell comprises the second and third intersections, and a channel engine configured to generate capacitance values corresponding to the unit cells.

Capacitive sensing with multi-pattern scan

A system comprises a processing device and a capacitive sense array that includes a plurality of electrodes. The system performs a first scan of a plurality of electrodes in a capacitive sense array to determine a position of a stylus. The system also performs one or more additional scans of subsets of the plurality of electrodes to determine additional positions of the stylus. The system may continually perform the additional scans on of the subsets of the plurality of electrodes until the stylus is no longer detected.

Multi-stage stylus scanning

A stylus may include an electrode that is positioned on the body of the stylus. The stylus may further include a switch. Furthermore, the switch may be used to provide a capacitance that is coupled to the electrode positioned on the body of the stylus to decrease a resistance to an electrical current through the stylus.

Full-bridge tip driver for active stylus

A system comprises a processing device and a capacitive sense array that includes a plurality of electrodes. The system receives a first signal from a first scan of electrodes in a capacitive sense array. The system processes the first signal using a first set of sequences to detect a stylus. The system receives a second scan from a second scan of electrodes in a capacitive sense array. The system processes the second signal using a second set of sequences to detect the stylus.

Multi-stage stylus detection

A method and apparatus to increase a transmit (TX) signal generated by an active stylus without increasing the power consumption of the active stylus. In one aspect, the active stylus increases the amplitude of the TX signal. In another aspect, the active stylus increases the TX signal by providing the capacitance of a body of a user to the stylus.

Apparatuses and methods of input attenuator circuits are described. One sensing circuit includes an attenuator circuit to receive a signal from an electrode of a sense array. The attenuator circuit is configured to attenuate input current of the signal. The attenuator circuit includes an attenuation matrix including an input terminal to receive the signal and multiple resistors. The attenuation matrix is configured to split the input current into an output current of the attenuation signal on a first output terminal and a second output current on a second output terminal. The attenuation matrix is to output the attenuated signal on the first output terminal to an integrator of the sensing circuit. The attenuator circuit also includes a buffer coupled between the attenuation matrix and the integrator. The buffer is configured to maintain a substantially same voltage at the first output terminal and the second output terminal.

Attenuator circuit of a capacitance-sensing circuit

A system comprises a processing device, a signal generator to generate a first signal and a single receiver to receive a second signal from a capacitive sense array. The single receiver is configured to process the second signal for stylus sensing of a stylus proximate to the capacitive sense array in a first mode of operation and to process the second signal for touch sensing of a passive touch object proximate to the capacitive sense array in a second mode of operation. The second signal is unsynchronized with the first signal.
