A playlist interface is provided for display on a user device, the playlist interface comprising a selectable indicator located after a first media item in a playlist, the selectable indicator presented in the playlist interface after the first media item to indicate that, upon selection, a second media item is to be added after the first media item in the playlist, wherein the second media item is an interstitial. Upon a user selection of the selectable indicator located after the first media item in the playlist interface, a plurality of user interface (UI) elements are caused to be presented to allow a user of the user device to specify configuration parameters for the interstitial being added to the playlist. User input is received for at least a subset of the plurality of UI elements to specify the configuration parameters for the interstitial. The interstitial is created based on the received configuration parameters, wherein the created interstitial is supplemental content to be added before or after one of a plurality of files of a plurality of media items of the playlist.

Cloud-based tool for creating video interstitials

A method for providing access to a target electronic device through a first service running on a different electronic device may include receiving in the first service a command directed to the target electronic device from a command sender and receiving in the service device operation status parameters of the target electronic device. The device operation status parameters may include properties of the target electronic device such as a battery level, a battery charging rate, an age, a planned lifespan, a recent wireless usage, an internal temperature, or any of the above in relation to an intervening electronic device over which communication to the target electronic device travels, or any combination thereof. The method may also include using the device operation status parameters to determine, using the service, whether to provide or not to provide an update signal incorporating the command or information to the target electronic device.

Selectively restricting communications from third party applications/devices to electronic devices

An interstitial creation interface is provided for display on a user device, the interstitial creation interface comprising a selectable interstitial indicator to add an interstitial to a playlist comprising a plurality of media items, wherein the selectable interstitial indicator is to be positioned between a first media item and a second media item of the plurality of media items. Responsive to a user selection of the selectable interstitial indicator, presentation of a plurality of user interface (UI) elements is caused to allow a user of the user device to specify interstitial configuration parameters for the interstitial being added to the playlist. User input is received for at least a subset of the plurality of UI elements to specify the interstitial configuration parameters for the interstitial. The interstitial is created based on the received interstitial configuration parameters, wherein the created interstitial is supplemental content to be added before or after one of a plurality of files of the plurality of media items.

The subject matter of this specification can be implemented in, among other things, a method that includes causing presentation of a collaborative video project to a first user account that includes a set of one or more shared video clips and a set of one or more personal video clips. The method includes receiving from the first user account a first selection of a video clip in the set of personal video clips and, in response, adding the video clip to the set of shared video clips. The method includes causing presentation of the collaborative video project to a second user account, including presentation of the set of shared video clips. The method includes receiving from the second user account a second selection of the video clip and, in response, adding the video clip to a collaborative video for the collaborative video project.

Collaborative video editing in a cloud environment

Systems and techniques for removing a sound recording from an audio recording (e.g., an audio recording embedded in a media file) are presented. The system can include an identification component, a first subtraction component and a second subtraction component. The identification component identifies a sound recording in a mixed audio recording. The first subtraction component determines a local linear transformation of the sound recording and subtracts the local linear transformation of the sound recording from the mixed audio recording to generate a new mixed audio recording. The second subtraction component compares one or more segments of the sound recording with one or more corresponding segments of the new mixed audio recording and reduces a power level of the new mixed audio recording based at least in part on correlation of the one or more corresponding segments with the one or more segments.

System and method for selective removal of audio content from a mixed audio recording

An interstitial creator provides an interstitial creation interface for display on a user device, the interstitial creation interface facilitating addition of an interstitial to a playlist comprising pointers to media files of media items to be played one after another on the user device without user interaction. The interstitial creator receives, through the interstitial creation interface, user input specifying interstitial configuration parameters for the interstitial, and creates the interstitial based on an interstitial template and the received interstitial configuration parameters, wherein the created interstitial is supplemental content to be added before or after one of the media files of the media items.

Systems and methods for displaying a simplified version of a modification of a media content item on a mobile device are provided. The mobile device can receive, via a user interface presented on the mobile device, a request for a desired modification of an original media content item. The mobile device can perform a simplified version of the desired modification of the original media content item. The mobile device can present a preview of the modified media content item in the user interface. The mobile device can transmit, to another computing device, the original media content item with the request for the desired modification.

Displaying simulated media content item enhancements on mobile devices

A system and method provides transcoding a video in parallel by multiple transcoders based on a measure of video coding complexity (VCC). The system has a video pre-processing module, a master transcoder, a transcoding controller and multiple transcoders. The video pre-processing module transcodes a source video into an intermediate video. The master transcoder partitions the intermediate video into multiple transcoding units, where a transcoding unit identifies a portion of data of the intermediate video for transcoding. The master transcoder further generates a transcoding request for each transcoding unit. The transcoding controller distributes the transcoding units to the multiple transcoders, which transcode the data of the transcoding units in parallel into transcoded data.

Parallel video transcoding

Methods, devices, and machine-readable media are provided to perform rule-based rate limiting. As provided in this disclosure, this may include receiving a message en route to a destination, determining one or more parameters of the message, and determining whether the parameters of the message match parameters of a rule that specifies taking a first action when more than some number of messages having those parameters are received within a specific amount of time. When the one or more parameters of the message match the one or more parameters of the first restriction rule, a sliding window counter that indicates a total number of corresponding messages received within the amount of time may be incremented. When the first sliding window counter exceeds the first number of messages, the specified action may be taken.

Rule-based rate limiting

An interstitial creator identifies a playlist of media items, the playlist comprising pointers to the media items. The interstitial creator receives a request to insert an interstitial at a location in the playlist, wherein the location is after a first media item and before a second media item. In response to the request, the interstitial creator provides an interstitial creation interface and receives, through the interstitial creation interface, interstitial configuration parameters. The interstitial creator creates the interstitial based on the received interstitial configuration parameters and inserts a pointer to the interstitial into the playlist at the location.
