An evaluation method for evaluating a spot generated on a substrate that has been treated with a repellent, the method includes an acquiring step of acquiring image data including data on the substrate that has been treated with the repellent to be evaluated, a spot-detecting step of creating a smoothed image from the image data, binarizing the smoothed image and detecting a region of a spot generated on the substrate, and a spot-evaluating step of determining an evaluation value of the spot according to an area of the region of the spot detected. A water-repellent composition containing (1) a polymer having 2-100 wt %, with respect to the polymer, of a repeating unit derived from an amide group-containing monomer (a) represented by the following formula [wherein Ris an organic moiety having an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable group, Ris a Chydrocarbon group, and Ris a Chydrocarbon group], (2) a co-agent containing at least one co-agent compound selected from the group consisting of a blocked isocyanate compound, a melamine resin, a silicone polymer, a wax, an acetylene-based emulsifier, and a polyoxyalkylene group-containing emulsifier, and (3) a liquid media. Preferably, the water-repellent composition includes no fluoroalkyl group-containing monomer, and preferably no fluorine-containing monomer. Also disclosed is a method for producing the water-repellent composition, a method for treating a substrate with the water-repellent composition, and a method for producing a treated textile product which includes treating a textile product with the water-repellent composition.

Water-repellent composition

A water- and oil-repellent agent that is an aqueous dispersion containing (A) a fluorine-free polymer having repeating units derived from a fluorine-free (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer, (B) a wax, (C) an aqueous medium, and (D) an emulsifier. The fluorine-free (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer is a compound represented by the formula CH&#x2550;CA-C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O-Awhere Ais a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and Ais a linear or branched Chydrocarbon group. The emulsifier includes a sorbitan ester and another emulsifier, and the emulsifier has a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) of 7.5 to 13.5. Also disclosed is a method of producing the water- and oil-repellent agent and a method of producing a treated substrate by applying the water- and oil-repellent agent to a substrate.

Surface treatment agent

Provided is a surface treatment agent which does not use fluorine-containing monomers, particularly fluoroalkyl group-containing monomers. The surface treatment agent is a water-based emulsion which includes: a copolymer (1) which includes a first polymer formed from first monomers, and a second polymer formed from second monomers, wherein the second polymer is polymerized in the presence of the first polymer, the first monomers include a long-chain acrylate ester monomer (a) represented by the formula CH&#x2550;CA&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O-A(in the formula, Arepresents hydrogen, a monovalent organic group, or a halogen, and Arepresents a Cstraight-chain or branched hydrocarbon group), the first monomers do not include a halogenated olefin monomer (b), and the second monomers include the halogenated olefin monomer (b); a surfactant (2) including a nonionic surfactant; and a liquid medium (3) including water.

The first monomers and the second monomers both include a halogenated olefin monomer (b).

Copolymer, and surface treatment agent

Provided is an aqueous emulsion composition which has excellent chemical stability (stability with respect to impurities) and excellent mechanical stability. Disclosed is an aqueous emulsion composition which contains: (A) a polymer that contains a fluoroalkyl group; and (B) a surfactant that contains (B1) an amidoamine surfactant having an amide group and an amino group, and (B2) a nonionic surfactant. It is preferable that the surfactant does not contain a monool having an unsaturated triple bond or an alkylene oxide addition product of a polyol.

Aqueous emulsion composition

Provided is a water and oil repellent composition that provides water and oil repellency that is excellent for base materials such as textile products, and is excellent for preventing adhesion of polymers on rolls during processing. The present invention involves a method for manufacturing a fluorine-containing polymer comprising a first polymer formed from a first monomer, and a second polymer formed from a second monomer. The manufacturing method includes: (I) a step for obtaining the first polymer by polymerizing the first monomer; and (II) a step for obtaining the second polymer by preparing and polymerizing the second monomer in the presence of the first polymer. The first monomer and/or the second monomer includes a fluorine-containing monomer (a), and both the first monomer and the second monomer include a halogenated olefin (b).
