The invention relates to a continuous polymerization process for preparing a random ethylene interpolymer which comprises: (A) polymerizing ethylene, and an &#x3b1;-olefin comonomer selected from propylene and/or 1-butene, and mixtures thereof, under continuous random polymerization conditions in the presence of single site catalyst system employing an ionic activator having cyclic ligands shielding a central charge bearing atom, at a temperature of 140&#xb0; C. to 250&#xb0; C. at a conversion of ethylene of 80 to 99% and a comonomer conversion of from at least 20%; and (B) devolatilizing the polymer to provide an ethylene copolymer having a density of from 0.85 to 0.92 g/cm, an MI of from 0.01 to 100 g/10 min and an I/Iof from 30 to 400.

Process for making ethylene interpolymers and interpolymers made thereby, and compositions and electrical devices containing such interpolymers

Described herein in one embodiment is a plant for the continuous solution polymerization of one or more monomers in a solvent, e.g., a hydrocarbon solvent. In one aspect, the plant comprises a high pressure pump and at least one heat exchanger downstream of the pump. In another aspect a feed is cooled by three heat exchangers which are refrigerated by means of a common three stage compressor. In another aspect, the plant comprises a primary reactor and a secondary reactor arranged to operate in parallel, in which the ratio of volume of the primary reactor to the secondary reactor is in the range of 60:40 to 95:5. In another aspect, a method of defouling a heat exchanger is provided in which the level of liquid refrigerant in the heat exchanger is temporarily lowered.

Described herein is a thermoplastic physical blend composition comprising (a) from 20 to 95 wt. % based on the total polymer content of a first polymer component that includes polypropylene having a melting point (Tm)&#x2267;110&#xb0; C.; and (b) from 80 to 5 wt. % based on the total polymer content of a second polymer component that includes a reactor blend obtainable from a solution process, the reactor blend including: (i) from 2 to 98 wt. % based on the total weight of the SPC of a propylene polymer having 60 wt. % or more units derived from propylene, including isotactically arranged propylene derived sequences and Tm&#x3c;105&#xb0; C. or a Heat of Fusion&#x3c;45 J/g, or both; and (ii) from 98 to 2 wt. % based on the total weight of the SPC of an ethylene &#x3b1;-olefin elastomer having either no crystallinity or crystallinity derived from ethylene, wherein (c) the FPC and the SPC are physically blended together to form the composition.

Thermoplastic blend compositions

For direct and on-line study of the physiological states of cell cultures, a robust flow injection system has been designed and interfaced with flow cytometry (FI-FCM). The core of the flow injection system includes a microchamber designed for sample processing. The design of the microchamber allows not only an accurate on-line dilution but also on-line cell fixation, staining, and washing. The flow injection part of the system was tested by monitoring the optical density of a growing culture on-line using a spectrophotometer. The entire growth curve, from lag phase to stationary phase, was obtained with frequent sampling. The system is thus particularly useful since it operates automatically without direct operator supervision for extended time periods.
