A lighting system includes a solid state lighting device capable of generating mixed light and a controller. The solid state lighting device includes light sources for producing mixed light and a sensor configured to detect light from one of the light sources. The controller controls two or more of the light sources based on output from the sensor. The controller can communicate with the sensor to provide closed-loop control.

Solid state lighting systems and associated methods of operation and manufacture

Described herein is a system for improving navigation by detecting glass surfaces. For example, the system may build an occupancy map representing objects present in an environment. The system performs additional processing to input scan data in order to detect glass surfaces and distinguish these glass surfaces from other obstacles. As glass is only detected within a narrow range of angles and the number of returns are small compared to non-glass surfaces, the system may determine whether an obstacle represented in the input scan data is glass by calculating a maximum range of angles and a number of overlapping returns for the obstacle. For example, the system may identify glass surfaces by identifying objects that are only detected within a narrow range of angles and that have a low number of overlapping returns.

LiDAR system and methods discussed herein use ultrafast light pulses. Use of ultrafast light pulses can result in reduced power consumption compared to longer length or conventional light pulses.

Ultrashort pulses in LiDAR systems

The present disclosure describes a system and method for coaxial LiDAR scanning. The system includes a first light source configured to provide first light pulses. The system also includes one or more beam steering apparatuses optically coupled to the first light source. Each beam steering apparatus comprises a rotatable concave reflector and a light beam steering device disposed at least partially within the rotatable concave reflector. The combination of the light beam steering device and the rotatable concave reflector, when moving with respect to each other, steers the one or more first light pulses both vertically and horizontally to illuminate an object within a field-of-view; obtain one or more first returning light pulses, the one or more first returning light pulses being generated based on the steered first light pulses illuminating an object within the field-of-view, and redirects the one or more first returning light pulses.

Some embodiments include an assembly having conductive structures distributed along a level within a memory array region and another region proximate the memory array region. The conductive structures include a first stack over a metal-containing region. A semiconductor material is within the first stack. A second stack is over the conductive structures, and includes alternating conductive tiers and insulative tiers. Cell-material-pillars are within the memory array region. LiDAR detection systems and methods that use multi-plane mirrors

Embodiments discussed herein refer to LiDAR systems and methods that monitor for fault conditions that could potentially result in unsafe operation of a laser. The systems and methods can monitor for faulty conditions involving a transmitter system and movement of mirrors in a scanning system. When a fault condition is monitored, a shutdown command is sent to the transmitter system to cease laser transmission. The timing by which the laser should cease transmission is critical in preventing unsafe laser exposure, and embodiments discussed herein enable fault detection and laser shutoff to comply with laser safety standards.

Lidar safety systems and methods

An optical detector system provides positioning data to facilitate tracking in optical communications. The system provides first and second path lengths to direct light onto an array of photodetectors. Incoming first light with a first polarization is reflected by a polarizing beam splitter (PBS) to the array, resulting in a first path length and a relatively wide field of view (FOV). Incoming second light with a second polarization passes through the PBS, interacts with a first quarter wave retarder (QWR) and a convex mirror, is reflected by the PBS, passes through a second QWR and is reflected by a flat mirror to pass through the PBS again and onto the array. The second light experiences a second path length greater than the first path length, exhibiting a relatively narrow FOV. The resulting spots of light on the array provide information about a position of the incoming beam.

Optical detector system with multiple path lengths

A light detection and ranging (LiDAR) system includes a rotatable polygon having a plurality of reflective sides including a first reflective side. The rotatable polygon configured to scan one or more first light signals in a first direction. The LiDAR system also includes a scanning optic configured to scan the one or more first light signals in a second direction different than the first direction. A first light source is configured to direct the one or more first light signals to one or more of the plurality of reflective sides of the rotatable polygon or the scanning optic. A first detector is configured to detect a first return light signal associated with a signal of the one or more first light signals. One or more optics are configured to focus the first return light signal on the first detector.
