Methods, systems, and devices for providing computer-implemented services are disclosed. To provide the computer-implemented services, graphics processing units cooled using liquid assisted air cooling may be utilized. In the event of failure of liquid assisted air cooling, the extent of the failure may be identified. A response based on the extent of the failure may be implemented to reduce an impact on workloads performed by the graphics processing units. By customizing the response, the workloads may be preserved even when cooling for some of the graphics processing units is unavailable.

A fan management system includes a chassis housing a storage fan system, a storage system cooled by the storage fan system, computing fan subsystems, and computing devices cooled by respective ones of the computing fan subsystems. Each of the computing devices detects a multi-computing-device configuration that includes the computing devices and, in response, determines a computing device chassis location for that computing device. Each computing device then receives fan inventory information that describes the storage fan system and the computing fan subsystems, distinguishes between the storage fan system and the computing fan subsystems based on the fan inventory information, identifies the computing fan subsystem that is configured to cool that computing device based on the computing device chassis location for that computing device, manages the computing fan subsystem that is configured to cool that computing device, and ignores the others of the computing fan subsystems.

Fan management system

An information handling system includes a memory and a baseboard management controller. The memory stores one or more device update packages, and each of the first device update packages includes an inter-integrated circuit payload. The baseboard management controller receives a first device update package, and stores the first device update package in the memory. In response to the first device update package being stored in the memory, the baseboard management controller launches a handler. The baseboard management controller retrieves a bus number and an address for a target device identified in the first device update package. The baseboard management controller parses data in a body of the inter-integrated circuit payload of the first device update package, and executes inter-integrated circuit commands in the body to provide a firmware image update to the target device.

Custom payload file for updating devices of an information handling system

Methods and systems for managing operation of data processing systems are disclosed. To manage operation of the data processing systems, the data processing systems may collect and use diagnostic data to manage various devices. The diagnostic data may be collected using different processes depending on the state of operable connections between components of the data processing systems, and the capabilities of the devices from which the diagnostic data is collected. The diagnostic data may be collected by invoking collection functionality of the devices, or through management of diagnostic data collection processes by other devices.

System and method for managing data processing systems and hosted devices

A firmware update system includes firmware storage device(s), an operating system engine coupled to the firmware storage device(s), and a remote access controller device coupled to the firmware storage device(s) and the operating system engine. The remote access controller device receives a single out-of-band firmware update command and, in response, performs a firmware storage device unlock operation to unlock the firmware storage device(s), transmits a firmware update package including a firmware update utility and a firmware update image to the operating system engine to cause the operating system engine to utilize the firmware update utility to update firmware stored in the firmware storage device(s) that was unlocked with the firmware update image and, subsequent to the operating system engine updating the firmware stored in the at least one firmware storage device that was unlocked, performs a firmware storage device lock operation to lock the firmware storage device(s).

A hot-swap controller fault reporting system includes component(s), a hot-swap controller that is coupled to the component(s), and a hot-swap controller fault reporting subsystem that is coupled to the hot-swap controller. The hot-swap controller fault reporting subsystem identifies a hot-swap controller fault that was generated by the hot-swap controller and that is associated with the component(s), generates an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) bit combination that is based on the hot-swap controller fault and that is configured to identify the hot-swap controller and a type of the hot-swap controller fault, and provides a log entry based on the IPMI bit combination in a log database.

A backplane management and configuration system includes a chassis housing a first storage system having a first backplane, a second storage system having a second backplane, a second computing device coupled to each of the first backplane and the second backplane via a second multiplexer and a communication bus, and a first computing device coupled to each of the first backplane and the second backplane via a first multiplexer and the communication bus. A backplane configuration/management subsystem in the first computing device detects a multi-computing-device configuration including the first and second computing devices in the chassis and, in response, determines a first computing device location in the chassis. Based on the first computing device location, the backplane configuration/management subsystem identifies a first backplane identifier for the first backplane and, in response, configures the first backplane for management by the backplane configuration/management subsystem and ignores the second backplane.

A computing system includes a component, a hot-swap controller that is coupled to the component, and a hot-swap controller monitoring configuration subsystem that is coupled to the hot-swap controller. The hot-swap controller monitoring subsystem receives a hot-swap controller monitoring configuration for the hot-swap controller that defines at least one monitoring characteristic for monitoring the component, uses it during an initialization of the computing system to generate hot-swap controller monitoring configuration commands, and transmits the hot-swap controller monitoring configuration commands to the hot-swap controller to configure the hot-swap controller to monitor the component according to at least one monitoring characteristic defined by the hot-swap controller monitoring configuration. During a runtime of the computing system following the initialization of the computing system, the hot-swap controller monitoring subsystem retrieves hot-swap controller monitoring data generated by the hot-swap controller for the component according to at least one monitoring characteristic.

In one embodiment, a method for enumerating logical identifiers for a plurality of backplanes of an information handling system includes: generating, by each of the plurality of backplanes, inventory information indicating a plurality of backplane attributes; sending, by each of the plurality of backplanes, the inventory information to a baseboard management controller; receiving, by the baseboard management controller, the inventory information from each of the plurality of backplanes; determining, by the baseboard management controller, a backplane topology of the information handling system based on the inventory information, the backplane topology indicating a backplane location for each of the plurality of backplanes; generating, by the baseboard management controller, a logical backplane identifier for each of the plurality of backplanes based on the backplane topology; and assigning, by the baseboard management controller, the logical backplane identifier to each of the plurality of backplanes.

Enumerating logical identifiers for backplanes of an information handling system

An information handling system may include an information handling resource, and a management controller configured to provide out-of-band management of the information handling system and coupled to the information handling resource via a communications bus. The management controller may be configured to cause the information handling resource to update a firmware thereof by transmitting a plurality of datagrams to the information handling resource via the communications bus, wherein the plurality of datagrams includes: a pilot datagram comprising a first header that includes information regarding an update payload, wherein the pilot datagram is configured to trigger an update handler of the information handling resource; and one or more subsequent datagrams comprising second headers and respective portions of the update payload, wherein the update handler is configured to update the firmware based on the update payload.

An information handling system may include a basic input/output system (BIOS), a management controller configured to provide out-of-band management of the information handling system, a plurality of communications bus root complex ports, and a storage backplane having a plurality of slots configured to receive respective storage resources. The information handling system may be configured to: store, at the management controller, an initial data structure containing a correspondence between the plurality of communications bus root complex ports and the plurality of slots; transmit, from the BIOS to the management controller, information regarding bus numbers for a plurality of enumerated information handling resources coupled to the communications bus; and determine, by the management controller, a correspondence between the bus numbers and the plurality of slots.

Configurable method to associate drive slot to bus number

A system may include a rack, a rack manager, and a block controller. The rack manager may be configured to communicatively couple to each of respective baseboard management controllers of information handling systems of the rack and also configured to manage power consumption by information handling resources housed in the rack. The block controller may be configured to monitor and report information regarding power consumption by the plurality of storage resources to the at least one of the baseboard management controllers, the at least one of the baseboard management controllers may be configured to communicate the information regarding power consumption by the plurality of storage resources to the rack manager, and the rack manager may be configured to manage power consumption by information handling resources housed in the rack based on the information regarding power consumption by the plurality of storage resources.
