Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a configuration that configures transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states based at least in part on aperiodic channel state information reference signals (AP-CSI-RSs), where each TCI state includes a first resource that is an aperiodic tracking reference signal (AP-TRS) and a second resource that is an AP-CSI-RS. The UE may receive first downlink control information that triggers a first AP-CSI-RS resource set that includes AP-CSI-RSs that are each associated with a quasi-co-location (QCL) Type-D resource. The UE may transmit a report that indicates one or more AP-CSI-RSs. The UE may receive an activation command that activates a TCI state associated with a first narrow beam, where a combination of a first AP-CSI-RS and a first associated QCL Type-D resource uniquely indicates the first narrow beam. Numerous other aspects are described.

Indicating transmission configuration indicator state based on aperiodic channel state information reference signal

A method for wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a network node, a message configuring a group of component carriers (CCs). The method also includes allocating, to each CC of the group of CCs based on receiving the message configuring the group of CCs, one of a respective first number of receiver chains, from a group of receiver chains available at the UE, or a respective second number of receiver chains, from the group of receiver chains, to maximize a total number of receiver chains for decoding the group of CCs, collectively. The method further includes decoding each CC of the group of CCs based on the respective first number of receiver chains or the respective second number of receiver chains allocated to the CC.

Dynamic receiver chain allocation

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications by a wireless device. The wireless device evaluates a plurality of antenna group combinations based on one or more criteria wherein each antenna group combination includes at least two antenna groups of multiple antennas and the one or more criteria involve a first performance value calculated separately for each antenna group in an antenna group combination under evaluation and a second performance value calculated collectively for the at least two antenna groups in the antenna group combination under evaluation. The wireless device selects a subset of the plurality of antenna group combinations, based on the evaluation.

Antenna grouping for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems

Wireless communications systems may support identification or determination of a common default beam for a component carrier (CC) group (e.g., such that all CCs of a CC group may be associated with a same default beam). For example, a CC group may be configured or established to include one or more CCs (e.g., for carrier aggregation), where each CC group may share a same analog beamformer. As such, a beam (e.g., a default uplink/downlink beam) may be established as default or common across CCs of a CC group (e.g., versus default beams being configured or established for individual CCs). Such an established default beam of a CC group (e.g., a default beam common to all CCs of a CC group) may include or refer to a default downlink shared channel beam, a default sounding reference signal (SRS) beam, a default downlink control channel beam, etc.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for inter-cell measurement and reporting. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes sending, to a base station (BS), an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE for inter-cell signal measurements, reporting of the inter-cell signal measurements, or both. The UE may perform inter-cell signal measurement and reporting based on the one or more capabilities.

Inter-cell measurement and reporting for beam management

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE), generally including receiving assistance information, from a network entity, indicating a mapping between beams across different remote radio heads (RRHs) and using the assistance information to perform beam management when the UE is moving from the coverage area of one RRH to the coverage area of another RRH.

A UE may calculate an allocation of a transmission power for a first uplink transmission on a first uplink channel and at least one second uplink transmission on at least one second uplink channel, the transmission power being allocated in each symbol of a plurality of symbols in a slot. The UE may detect a transmission power change in the allocation of the transmission power in the slot for at least one of the first uplink transmission or the at least one second uplink transmission. The UE may determine whether to adjust the allocation of the transmission power for the at least one of the first uplink transmission or the at least one second uplink transmission to eliminate the transmission power change in the slot for the at least one of the first uplink transmission or the at least one second uplink transmission.

Enhanced uplink power control with lookahead

In some aspects, the present disclosure provides methods, apparatuses, and systems for efficient thermal mitigation while maintaining wireless device performance on a primary component carrier (PCC). Embodiments described may include implementation of target transceiver module configurations, where bandwidth (e.g., PCC bands and secondary component carrier (SCC) bands) may be monitored by a wireless device based on intra-module target configurations and/or inter-module target configurations. An intra-module target configuration may include a target transceiver module monitoring both PCC bands and SCC bands. An inter-module target configuration may include or refer to a plurality of target transceiver modules together monitoring PCC bands and SCC bands. In scenarios where operating temperatures exceed temperature thresholds, target transceiver module configurations may be implemented to transition PCC bands, SCC bands, or both, from a PCC-resident transceiver module to another transceiver module to reduce the operating temperatures of concern. Various additional and alternative aspects are described herein.

Thermal mitigation in user equipment having multiple communication modules

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for communicating antenna module information, beamforming capabilities, power control information, etc., for computing devices capable of operating in multiple form factor configurations. A example technique includes detecting that the UE is operating in a first form factor configuration of a plurality of form factor configurations the UE is adapted to operate in. The technique also includes, in response to the detection, transmitting information associated with at least one antenna module of the UE in the first form factor configuration.

Techniques for signaling antenna module information for devices with adaptable form factor configurations

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may measure a signal strength for each beam of a set of multiple beams. The UE may select, from the set of multiple beams, a set of two or more beams each having a respective signal strength satisfying a threshold. The UE may attempt to decode a first broadcast channel signal of a first beam of the set of two or more beams in a single broadcast channel period. The UE may decode, after failing to decode the first broadcast channel signal of the first beam, a second broadcast channel signal of a second beam of the set of two or more beams in the single broadcast channel period.

Decoding broadcast channel signaling using multiple beams

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques provide for dynamic updates to beam failure detection (BFD) reference signals (RSs) and path loss RS using medium access control-control element (MAC-CE) or downlink control information (DCI). For example, the quasi co-location (QCL) of periodic CSI-RS may be dynamically updated by the MAC-CE or DCI when the periodic CSI-RS is for BFD RS. Also, a semi-persistent CSI-RS or aperiodic CSI-RS may act as a BFD RS. An enhanced update procedure may be used to update the path loss RS dynamically using MAC-CE or DCI. In some cases, the path loss RS parameters updated via MAC-CE or DCI may overwrite the previously RRC configured path loss RS parameters. In another example, if the path loss RS is not configured, then the path loss RS by default may be the spatial relation reference signal of the corresponding uplink beam.

Techniques for updating reference signals

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless communications system may support adaptive scheduling in idle mode. In some cases, a user equipment (UE) may receive control signaling indicating a first beam sweeping occasion and a first paging occasion within a search time period. The UE may select a first quantity of measurement occasions of the first beam sweeping occasion for monitoring multiple beams. The first quantity of measurement occasions may be based on a channel quality metric observed for a prior beam during a prior beam sweeping occasion. The UE may select a first beam to monitor for a first paging message during the first paging occasion based on respective channel quality metrics observed for multiple beams during the first quantity of measurement occasions. Further, the UE may monitor for the first paging message during the first paging occasion using the first beam.

Techniques for adaptive scheduling in idle mode

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for receive beam switching for neighbor cell measurement. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes determining a first receive beam of a plurality of receive beams to use for reception during a first synchronization signal block (SSB) duration within a synchronization signal block set (SSBS) duration. The method includes determining a second receive beam of the plurality of receive beams to use for reception during a second SSB duration within the SSBS duration. The UE may measure one or more first signals transmitted by a serving cell and/or one or more neighbor cells with the first receive beam during the first SSB duration and measure one or more second signals transmitted by the serving cell and/or the one or more neighbor cells with the second receive beam during the second SSB duration.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first device may monitor for a set of reference signals from a second device using a set of directional beams. The first device may perform measurements on the received reference signals and select a subset of directional beams from the set of directional beams based on the performed measurements. Each directional beam may be associated with a set of beamforming weights. The first device may communicate with the second device using a dynamic set of beamforming weights. The first device may form the dynamic set of beamforming weights using a combination of beamforming weights from each set of beamforming weights associated with the subset of directional beams. The dynamic set of beamforming weights may be different from each set of beamforming weights associated with the subset of directional beams.
