In some applications, aircraft air data probes are heated to prevent rain, ice, or other moisture from attaching to the air data probe. The body of the air data probe and the components positioned within the body of the air data probe can be constructed from differing materials, resulting in differing coefficient of thermal expansions for each component. Retention features are added to a housing to prevent an epoxy potting from expanding outside its intended region and preventing damage to the electronic components within the housing.

An air-data probe component includes an additively manufactured inner member. The inner member includes integrally formed, monolithic structures including a mandrel bulkhead defining a plurality of pneumatic chambers therein in fluid communication with an outer surface of the mandrel bulkhead through respective pressure ports, and a plurality of pneumatic tubes extending aft of the mandrel bulkhead along a probe axis, each in fluid communication with a respective one of the plurality of pneumatic chambers. An outer cover tip can be engaged about the mandrel bulkhead with a plurality of bores therethrough for fluid communication of outside air pressure into the plurality of pneumatic tubes through the outer cover tip. A forward surface of the outer cover tip can be flush, conformal, and continuous with an aerodynamic outer surface of an aircraft.

A system used to additively manufacture an object layer-by-layer using direct energy deposition (DED) includes a base where the object is formed, a depositor configured to deposit material layer-by-layer on the base or a previously deposited layer of the object, an energy source configured to selectively direct an energized beam at the material to fuse a new layer of the material to a previously formed layer, and a heating element in contact with at least a portion of the base and configured to supply heat to the base.

Systems and methods for in process heating for direct energy deposition applications

A method of determining an amount of imperfection in an additively manufactured material is disclosed herein. The method includes forming a sample piece constructed from the material during a same additive manufacturing cycle as a design piece constructed from the material, introducing a first electrical current to the sample piece while maintaining the sample piece at a reference temperature, and determining the amount of imperfection in the material depending on the measured resistance and the reference temperature of the sample piece.

A method of repairing an air data probe includes assessing an air data probe for a damaged portion. The method includes depositing a material on the air data probe to repair the damaged portion of the air data probe. An air data probe includes a probe body including a sense port inlet defined through a wall of the probe body. At least a portion of the wall surrounding the sense port inlet is defined by a deposited material having a different microstructure than a material defining another portion of the wall.

A conductivity cell system includes a flow tube having a flow through hole extending from a first end of the flow tube to a second end of the flow tube, a plurality of electrodes positioned in the flow tube, and circuitry connected to the plurality of electrodes. The plurality of electrodes form pairs of electrodes, each pair consisting of two electrodes positioned across the flow tube from each other and being connected together.

A conductivity cell includes a cylindrical flow tube holder having a closed first end and an open second end, a first end fitting positioned on the first end of the flow tube holder, a second end fitting positioned on the second end of the flow tube holder, a flow tube positioned within the flow tube holder, an end cap positioned in the open second end of the flow tube holder and adjacent the flow tube and the second end fitting, a plurality of electrodes positioned in the flow tube, a plurality of o-rings positioned on the electrodes, and a flow through hole extending from the first end fitting through the flow tube holder, the flow tube, and the end cap to the second end fitting. The plurality of electrodes are press-fit into the flow tube.
