Provided herein are methods, devices, compositions, and kits for monitoring neuromodulation efficacy based on changes in the level or activity of one or more target biomarkers. A method can include transluminally delivering a distal portion of an elongated shaft of a catheter to a target renal blood vessel and at least partially inhibiting sympathetic neural activity of a renal nerve. The method includes determining a post-neuromodulation level of one or more biomarkers after at least partially inhibiting the sympathetic neural activity of the renal nerve, wherein the level of the one or more biomarkers directly or indirectly correlates with sympathetic nervous activity in the patient. The method can include comparing the post-neuromodulation level to a predetermined level for the one or more biomarkers, wherein the renal neuromodulation procedure is classified as at least partially successful if the post-neuromodulation level differs from the predetermined level.

Monitoring of neuromodulation using biomarkers

A neuromodulation catheter in accordance with a particular embodiment includes an elongate shaft and a neuromodulation element operably connected to the shaft. The shaft includes a proximal hypotube segment at its proximal end portion and a jacket disposed around at least a portion of an outer surface of the hypotube segment. The jacket may be made at least partially of a polymer blend including polyether block amide and polysiloxane. The neuromodulation element includes a distal hypotube segment and a tubular jacket disposed around at least a portion of an outer surface of the distal hypotube segment. The jacket has reduced-diameter segments spaced apart along its longitudinal axis. The neuromodulation element further includes band electrodes respectively seated in the reduced-diameter segments and respectively forming closed loops extending circumferentially around the jacket.

Neuromodulation catheters having jacketed neuromodulation elements and related devices, systems, and methods

Methods for treating a patient using therapeutic renal neuromodulation and associated devices, systems, and methods are disclosed herein. One aspect of the present technology is directed to biomarker sampling in the context of neuromodulation devices, systems, and methods. Some embodiments, for example, are directed to catheters, catheter systems, and methods for sampling biomarkers that change in response to neuromodulation. A system can include, for example, an elongated shaft and a neuromodulation and sampling assembly having a neuromodulation and a sampling element.

Biomarker sampling in the context of neuromodulation devices, systems, and methods

A neuromodulation catheter includes an elongate shaft and a neuromodulation element. The shaft includes two or more first cut shapes and two or more second cut shapes along a helical path extending around a longitudinal axis of the shaft. The first cut shapes are configured to at least partially resist deformation in response to longitudinal compression and tension on the shaft and torsion on the shaft in a first circumferential direction. The second cut shapes are configured to at least partially resist deformation in response to longitudinal compression on the shaft and torsion on the shaft in both first and second opposite circumferential directions.

Catheters with enhanced flexibility and associated devices, systems, and methods

Provided herein are methods, devices, compositions, and kits for monitoring neuromodulation efficacy based on changes in the level or activity of one or more target biomarkers. One aspect includes a comparison of baseline and post-modulation levels of one or more biomarkers in bodily fluid that have each been collected from a human subject at a relevant time, and that may be used to assess the neuromodulation efficacy. The post-neuromodulation levels for the one or more biomarkers may be collected from the human subject within about 5 minutes to about 14 days post-neuromodulation.

Neuromodulation catheters with shafts for enhanced flexibility and control and methods of making and using the catheters. A neuromodulation catheter can include an elongated shaft having a distal end portion and a mandrel extending at least along the distal end portion. The mandrel can have an at least substantially solid core. The neuromodulation catheter can further include a transition member and a neuromodulation assembly coupled to the transition member. The transition member can have a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a guide wire lumen extending through the proximal and distal portions. The neuromodulation assembly can extend distally from the distal portion of the transition member, and the mandrel can extend proximally from the proximal portion of the transition member.
