Implantable transponders comprising no ferromagnetic parts for use in medical implants are disclosed herein. Such transponders may assist in preventing interference of transponders with medical imaging technologies. Such transponders may optionally be of a small size, and may assist in collecting and transmitting data and information regarding implanted medical devices. Methods of using such transponders, readers for detecting such transponders, and methods for using such readers are also described.

Transponders and sensors for implantable medical devices and methods of use thereof

A medical device may include a shaft extending between a proximal end and a distal end. The shaft may include a lumen therein. The medical device may include a handle coupled to the proximal end of the shaft and may include a mode selector. The mode selector may be adapted to transition between a first mode and a second mode of the medical device. The medical device may further include a compressed fluid source. In the first mode, the compressed fluid source may be fluidly coupled with the shaft so as to impart a negative pressure in at least a portion of the lumen. In the second mode, the compressed fluid source may be fluidly coupled with the shaft so as to impart a positive pressure in the at least a portion of the lumen.

Apparatuses for the implantation of medical devices and methods of use thereof

Medical implants comprising biocompatible materials and having surface features that may assist in biocompatibility upon implantation in the body are described. Methods for manufacturing such implants are also described. The manufacturing process may include applying a biocompatible material to a texturized surface of a mold. The implants may include various features to assist their positioning, fixation, and/or identification during and/or after implantation.

Medical implants and methods of preparation thereof

An intraocular implant (IOI) includes a lens structure with variable optical power, a sensor that detects an optical accommodation response, a rechargeable power storage device, a recharging interface, a wireless communication interface, and a controller. The controller can receive information from the sensor indicating an optical accommodation response, control the lens structure to vary the variable optical power based on the information received from the sensor, control the recharging interface to recharge the rechargeable power storage device, and further control the recharging interface to receive power for operation of the IOI, and transmit and receive information through the wireless communication interface.

Devices and methods provide accurate targeting, placement, and/or stabilization of an electrode or other instrument(s) into the brain or other body organ, such as to treat severe tremor or other neurological disorders. Targeting is performed using any form of image-guidance, including real-time MRI, CT, or frameless surgical navigation systems.

Device for immobilizing a primary instrument and method therefor

An implantable ophthalmic device with flexible, fluid-filled membranes provide dynamically variable optical power to restore lost accommodation in individuals suffering from presbyopia or aphakia without moving parts or reducing the amount of transmitted light. Actuating the device causes the fluid-filled membrane to change curvature, which produces a corresponding change in optical power. For instance, squeezing the edge of the membrane causes the center of the membrane to bulge by an amount proportional to the squeezing force. Alternatively, heating or applying a voltage to the membrane may cause the liquid in the membrane to undergo a phase transition accompanied by a corresponding change in volume that causes the membrane to inflate so as to change the optical power of the device.
