Embodiments include a method for managing connections to one or more antennas in a wireless network. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving antenna information at a wireless controller from an antenna. Configuration information is accessed from a database coupled to the wireless controller, where this information includes suitable antenna characteristics for use with the wireless network. The received antenna information and the configuration information are compared, and instructions are provided to cause the antenna to be connected to or disconnected from the wireless network based on the comparison between the antenna information and the configuration information.

Managing antennas on an access point in a wireless network

A scalable Ethernet switch includes modules which can be interconnected to provide a single, virtual switch. The modules may be of uniform physical size and shape relative to a standard telecommunications rack. When greater capacity is required, an additional module is mounted in a rack and interconnected with the other modules, e.g., in a bi-directional ring. Enhanced port density is provided by interconnecting the modules with 12 GbE links which operate on standard 10 GbE wiring and connectors. Consequently, throughput between modules in increased relative to standard 10 GbE links without increasing form factor. Further, transmission power control can be implemented such that modules of the virtual switch may be physically adjacent or separated by distances of several meters.

Modular scalable switch architecture

A pump used to infuse a fluid into a patient is controlled in accordance with an algorithm that enables a microprocessor to monitor and adjust each pump cycle to compensate for a differential pressure between the pump's inlet and outlet. The algorithm defines a fluid delivery protocol that is applied in controlling the operation of the pump to achieve a desired rate, volume, and timing of the fluid infusion. Fluid is delivered by the pump when a plunger compresses an elastomeric membrane overlying a fluid chamber. Due to the small volume of the chamber, an incremental change in the plunger position before the delivery stroke produces a significant change in the delivery pressure. At the beginning of a pump cycle, the microprocessor determines the differential pressure between the inlet and outlet of the pump, and adjusts the plunger position before the delivery stroke to compensate for the differential pressure. A retraction of the plunger from the home position decreases the delivery pressure of the fluid, and an advancement of the plunger increases it. After the position of the plunger is adjusted to compensate for the differential pressure, the pump cycle proceeds. Following the plunger stroke, the outlet pressure is used to determine the actual volume of fluid delivered. The duration of the plunger stroke in the next pump cycle is adjusted to compensate for any volume delivery error produced by the differential pressure compensation.

A method and apparatus for driving a stepper motor such that when the motor is stepped, the velocity of the motor is substantially zero upon reaching a new stepped position, thereby eliminating overshoot and ringing, and the wasted energy associated with these effects. The method comprises energizing at least one of the stepper motor windings at a predetermined current level for a predetermined step time, wherein the current level is determined as a function of the step time and dynamic single-step response characteristics of the stepper motor and load so that the motor velocity is substantially zero when the adjacent stepped position is reached. At this point, the stepper motor windings that were energized to make the rotor of the motor move are de-energized, whereupon the rotor is held in place by the inherent detent torque of the stepper motor. Since the velocity of the motor is substantially zero when the adjacent stepped position is achieved, there is no overshoot, and thus ringing is eliminated.

Pseudo half-step motor drive method and apparatus

A stepper motor controller and method for controlling the motion of a stepper motor by selectively energizing the motor's windings so that the current level in the windings match a desired current profile. The motor controller comprises a master logic device, preferably a microprocessor or microcontroller, which is programmed with logic for issuing control signals corresponding to the sequence with which the windings of the stepper motor are energized and the desired current profile. A portion of the control signals are received by a slaved logic device, which is programmed with logic for generating ramp command signals corresponding to the desired current profile. The slaved logic device produces a ramp command signal that is received by a digital potentiometer, which preferably includes an up/down counter. The output signal produced by the digital potentiometer corresponds to a current count value of the up/down counter, and it is controlled by the ramp command signals. By controlling the digital potentiometer with the ramp command signals, a current command signal is produced corresponding to the desired current profile and having a range between low and high reference voltages. This current command signal is provided to a stepper motor drive circuit, which controls the current levels in the stepper motor windings so that they correspond to the desired current profile and are phased according to required sequence.

Use of digital current ramping to reduce audible noise in stepper motor

An electronic circuit and a method for accurately measuring intermittent current pulses supplied by a storage battery to energize a load. In the preferred embodiment, an analog integrator accumulates current pulses in response to a voltage drop across a sense resistor that is connected in series between the storage battery and the load. The voltage drop is proportional to the flow of current from the battery through the load. The output of the integrator is filtered with a low pass filter to block high frequency noise, and the output of the filter is coupled to an analog to digital (A/D) converter that transforms the filtered analog signal into a corresponding digital signal. The output of the A/D converter is supplied to a port of a processor. The processor provides a signal to actuate a reset switch coupled across the integrator. When closed at the end of each integration time period, this switch zeroes the output of the analog integrator. Additionally, the processor recalibrates the circuit at predefined time intervals to determine for leakage currents for improving the accuracy with which the measurement of the flow of current from the battery is determined. In the preferred embodiment, the processor samples the output of the A/D converter every 100 milliseconds. Typically, the calibration procedure is performed every 15 minutes (while the load is energized from an AC source). This measurement circuit is part of a battery management system that preferably also includes a charge circuit for recharging the battery.
