Embodiments of the present invention relate to a structural frame member which includes a brace member that is used to absorb energy when the structural frame is subjected to loadings such as seismic, wind and gravity loads. The brace member is coupled to a restraining member that increases the buckling capacity of the brace member so that the brace member has approximately the same load axial capacity in compression as in tension. Embodiments of the invention also relate to the design, construction and assembly of the connection of the brace member that couples the brace member to a gusset plate which is coupled to the beam and column in the structural frame.

Systems and methods for fabrication and use of brace designs for braced frames

A structural framework that includes a column, a beam, a brace beam coupled at an angle to the column and the beam, and a gusset plate to connect the brace beam with the column and the beam. The framework also includes a shear plate with horizontally slotted holes to couple to the column to the beam. The structural framework may also include double framing angles or a flex plate coupled to the gusset plate and to the beam via spacer plates to provide for a semi-rigid connection.

An all-reflective telescope has, in order, a positive-optical-power primary mirror, a negative-optical-power secondary mirror, a positive-optical-power tertiary mirror, a negative-optical-power quaternary mirror, and a positive-optical-power field lens. The mirrors and lens are axisymmetric about a beam axis. The light beam is incident upon an infrared detector after reflecting from the quaternary mirror. A cooling housing encloses the detector and the field lens, but does not enclose any of the mirrors. An uncooled warm-stop structure outside of the cooling housing but in a field of view of the detector is formed as a plurality of facets with reflective surfaces oriented to reflect a view of an interior of the cooling housing back to the interior of the cooling housing.

A new and improved adaptive optics wavefront tilt sensor having both very high sensitivity and wide dynamic range is presented. In accordance with this invention, distortion is induced in each subaperture beam by passing a high f-number beam through a field lens having large amounts of spherical aberration. The distortion provides transition from a wide dynamic range, low sensitivity wavefront tilt measurement to a narrow dynamic range, high sensitivity wavefront tilt measurement. This beam is then impinged on a single photodector which provides at least one electrical signal indicative of centroid position.
