The invention relates to a process and a device for the manufacturing of a glued block made of triangular cross-sectioned elongated staves of wood. The staves of wood are laid beside each other with alternate staves with their base sides downwards and alternate ones with their base sides upwards, and adhesive applied between adjoining surfaces between the staves. A press (,) applies main pressure force to glue the staves firmly together is transverse to the base sides of the staves.

A measuring machine produces an essentially linear movement in a moving part by transforming rotary movement to linear movement through a transmission element having a high modulus of elasticity in a longitudinal direction, and which is flexible in a transverse direction. The transmission element has two ends which are each fastened to the same mechanical element, and the transmission element is given a pre-stress which is greater than a maximum force encountered during acceleration while the machine is in use.

The device has a lance. The lance is moved towards said molten bath level. An antenna is provided at a downward end of the lance for coaction with the slag interface (interfaces), when the lance is moved towards the slag interface (interfaces). A sensitive detection circuit is connected to said antenna. The antenna is during its downward movement capacitively coupled to said slag layer, and the detection circuit detects a predetermined impedance change (predetermined impedance changes) at the antenna provided as it is moved towards the interface (interfaces).

A measuring device measures the width of trees and other vertically disposed objects at a distance from these objects. An aiming instrument cites various points along the object and measures a distance to the object as well as provides a signal proportional to a plumb line angle sensor, a signal proportional to a horizontal angle device, and a distance measuring signal. A computer coupled to the aiming instrument will compute the diameter of the trees or other vertically disposed objects from the distance signal, angle sensor signal and horizontal angle device.

This invention relates to a method of registering the tophography and height level of the charged mass in a blast furnace. A distance meter for measurement by means of direct reflection against the surface is placed in the vicinity of the top of the blast furnace, appropriately at an inspection window located there. The distance meter is equipped with an aiming device with which the measuring direction of the distance meter is aimable at selected parts of the surface of the charged mass. A computing unit such as a micro- or minicomputer calculates, on the basis of the siting of the distance meter, the set angles of the aiming device for measurement direction and the results of performed distance measurements, calculates the positions for the different measuring points and presents these in analog or digital form.
