The invention concerns a vehicle seat, in particular for aircraft, comprising: a cushion made of plastic foam, a supporting body of an open-cell, resilient plastic foam with a first relative density; a middle layer with a second relative density different from the first; and a covering material. The layers are bonded together. A flame-resistant intermediate layer may be arranged between the supporting body and the covering material. The intermediate layer may be formed from a lattice or mesh of high temperature-resistant fibers or threads. The middle layer (18) is a nonwoven fabric of at least one fiber layer of needled or thermally bonded fibers or threads of synthetic and/or natural materials which are preferably applied to a carrier layer by needling.

An aircraft seat cushion comprises a foamed plastic supporting body consisting of a lower supporting part, an upper sitting part, the lower sitting part being detachable from the supper surface of the supporting part, and a detachable flameproofing layer covering the upper surface of the sitting part and the edges of the sitting and supporting parts, and a flameproof layer covering the entire lower surface of the supporting part so that the cushion is encapsulated in the flameproof layers.

The invention relates to a vehicle seat with a seat padding (4), in particular for an aircraft seat, of the type comprising a supporting body (6) of foamed plastic, which consists of a supporting part (7) of a resilient plastic foam (42) having a first specific gravity and a sitting part (8) of a resilient plastic foam with a second specific gravity which is less than the specific gravity of the supporting part (7) and an upholstery material (62), which are connected, in particular are glued in places together. Between the supporting body (6) and the upholstery material (62), if required, a flame-resistant intermediate layer (51) formed from a lattice or from high temperature-resistant fibers or threads (52), is arranged in a lattice form. At least over a portion of the thickness (12) of the supporting part (7) and/or of the sitting part (8) between a front and/or back leading edge (11, 25) of the supporting part and/or sitting part (7, 8) and approximately in a central region thereof, an insert piece (9,84) is arranged. The latter has a greater hardness than the supporting and/or sitting part (7,8). The specific gravity of the insert piece (9,84) is less than the first specific gravity of the supporting part (7).

A seat cushion comprises a supporting body of an open-celled, resilient foamed plastic material, an outer flame-resistant covering material encasing at least portions of the seat cushion, and a flame-resistant protective layer encasing the supporting body and connected thereto, the protective layer underlying the covering material and consisting of machine-knitted, multi-layered material. This protective layer material comprises warp threads arranged in two superposed planes and spaced apart a predetermined distance, the warp threads in an upper one of the planes being staggered in a woof direction by half the predetermined distance from the warp threads in a lower one of the planes, and the warp threads extending in a longitudinal direction, and a group of eight weft threads adjacent each other in the longitudinal direction. Two of the eight weft threads are looped around each warp thread in the upper plane, a respective one of the two weft threads is additionally looped around alternating ones of the wrap threads in the lower plane, three of the six additional weft threads are arranged between the two weft threads and are looped around different warp threads arranged only in one of the two planes, and each warp thread in each plane is looped around by only three weft threads.

Fire resistant vehicle seat

A seat cushion is disclosed, in particular for an aircraft seat, with a supporting body of a foamed plastic with a spring core embedded therein, and a flameproofing layer of flame-retardant plastics foam, to which a covering material is secured, preferably detachably. The supporting body is formed from a lower supporting part of foamed plastic having the spring core embedded therein and a sitting part, also of foamed plastic, preferably of a different density.
