A supercharger assembly has a supercharger housing defining an air inlet and an air outlet; an impeller disposed in the supercharger housing; an impeller shaft connected to the impeller for driving the impeller; a driveshaft connected to the impeller shaft for driving the impeller shaft, the driveshaft defining an oil supply passage; and a torsional damper connected to the driveshaft for driving the driveshaft. The torsional damper is configured for being operatively connected to a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. The oil supply passage is positioned to supply oil to the torsional damper for lubricating the torsional damper.

Supercharger assembly

A method for inverting a rotation of an impeller driven by a motor of a watercraft is disclosed. In response to sensing that the motor is stopped, a direct linkage is disconnected between the motor and the impeller and a reverse connection is established between the motor and the impeller. The motor is started after sensing that the reverse connection is established. A watercraft propulsion system having an electronic control unit configured to perform the method and a watercraft including the watercraft propulsion system are also disclosed. Reverse operation of the impeller is useful in removing debris from the jet propulsion system.

Watercraft propulsion system and method for inverting a rotation of an impeller driven by a motor of a watercraft

A personal watercraft is disclosed with a hull, a seating assembly, and a four stroke internal combustion engine below the seating assembly. The engine has at least one intake valve for each of the combustion cylinder chambers, at least one exhaust valve for each of the combustion cylinder chambers, and a valve actuation assembly located in a cylinder head for operating the intake and exhaust valves. At least one air intake passageway is operatively coupled to the combustion cylinder chambers through the intake valves. An air intake manifold is connected to the cylinder head and operatively connected to the at least one air intake passageway. The engine also has a supercharger for boosting air to the air intake manifold. The watercraft also includes a propulsion unit, operatively coupled to the crankshaft, which is located on one end of the two ends of the crankcase.

A combined flame arrester and intercooler for cooling intake gas for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The intercooler comprises an elongated body having a longitudinal axis. The elongated body has a central passageway that extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis. An inlet opening is located on one end of the elongated body such that the intake gas enters the central passageway though the inlet opening. The intercooler further includes a plurality of cooling tubes forming at least a portion of the elongated body. The plurality of tubes substantially surround the central passageway. Each of the cooling tubes is spaced from an adjacent cooling tube such that an air flow path is formed there between. The intake gas is cooled by flowing past the cooling tubes. Preferably, the intake gas flows along the central passageway in the elongated body and radially outward therefrom through the air flow path between the cooling tubes. The intercooler includes at least one plate extending substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis. Each plate includes a central opening therein, which corresponds to the central passageway in the elongated body such that the intake gas is capable of flowing through the central opening. Each plate has a plurality of openings formed thereon about a periphery of the plate. One cooling tube is fed through each opening.

A four stroke internal combustion engine is disclosed having a power take off housing located at one end of the engine. A crankshaft is operatively connected to a drive shaft and the cam shaft within the power take off housing. Furthermore, the crankshaft is operatively coupled within the power take off housing to at least one of a generator, an engine starting mechanism, a balance shaft, and a supercharger.

A four stroke internal combustion engine is disclosed having a lubrication system for circulating lubricant within the engine. The engine further include a system for separating lubricant from blow-by gas within the crank case.

A four stroke internal combustion engine having cooling system for cooling the engine is disclosed. The cooling system includes a closed loop cooling system for cooling at least a portion of the engine. The cooling system also includes an open loop cooling system for cooling at least a portion of the engine. The open loop cooling system uses coolant from an external source (e.g., a body of water) to cool the engine.

A four stroke internal combustion engine having a flexible arrangement is disclosed such that the engine can be easily configured for supercharged or normally aspirated operation. The engine includes a cooling system that includes both closed loop and open loop cooling systems for improved cooling efficiency. A power take off housing located on one end of the crankcase. Various engine components are operatively coupled to the crankshaft within the power take off housing including a cam shaft for a valve actuation assembly, a generator, an engine starting mechanism, a balance shaft, and a supercharger. The engine contemplated in accordance with the present invention also includes a dry sump lubrication system having lubricant separator for separating lubricant from blow-by gas within the engine.
