A device and a method for regulating the lift characteristic of an exhaust charge cycle valve of an internal combustion engine. The device comprises a controllable electric motor having an actuator element for actuation of the exhaust charge cycle valve, a regulating device for controlling the electric motor and two energy storage means acting in opposite drive directions on the exhaust charge cycle valve. The regulating device controls the electric motor according to a stored setpoint path, on the basis of which the exhaust charge cycle valve is transferred between a first end position and a second end position by swiveling the rotor of the electric motor back and forth. At least two different setpoint paths may be provided for regulating the speed of the rotor of the electric motor, whereby a lower kinetic energy is transferred to the exhaust charge cycle valve in regulation on the basis of the one setpoint path during the valve opening process than in regulation on the basis of the other setpoint path.

Device and method for controlling the lift of an outlet gas exchange charge cycle valve of an internal combustion engine

A device and a method are provided for regulating the lift characteristic of a charge cycle valve of an internal combustion engine. The device comprises a controllable drive unit having an actuator element for actuating the charge cycle valve, two energy storage means acting on the charge cycle valve in opposite drive directions and a regulating means for controlling the drive unit. The regulating unit controls the drive unit according to a stored setpoint path, on the basis of which the charge cycle valve is transferred from a first end position into a second end position and vice versa. The setpoint path is designed so that it maps the ideal transient characteristic of the energy storage-drive element-energy storage system of the device without taking any additional ambient influences into account.

Device for controlling the lift of a gas exchange valve in an internal combustion engine

A method for calibrating a distance sensor of a rotary actuator device for controlling a valve of an internal combustion engine. The rotary actuator includes an electric motor with an actuator element for actuating the valve, two energy storage means acting on the valve in opposite drive directions, and a control unit for controlling the electric motor. The electric motor is controlled such that the valve is transferred from a first end position, in which the actuator element is a metastable torque-neutral position, to a second metastable torque-neutral position. Starting from a torque-neutral position, the electric motor is controlled such that the rotor is moved out of the torque-neutral position in at least one direction by a distance, and the resulting electric motor power consumption is measured. Depending on the electric motor current values, a new rotor position for calibration of the distance signal is ascertained.

Method for calibration of a sensor on a rotational actuator device for control of a gas exchange valve in an internal combustion engine

A method for calibrating a distance sensor of a rotary actuator device for controlling a charge cycle valve of an internal combustion engine. The rotary actuator device includes a controllable electric motor having an actuator element for actuating the charge cycle valve, two energy storage means acting in opposite drive directions on the charge cycle valve, a control and regulating device which controls the electric motor with regard to its rotor angle according to a stored setpoint path and a distance sensor for detecting the rotor position. At least one state variable of the electric motor is measured, the at least one state variable being compared with a reference variable. If there is a deviation between the variables being compared, the stored setpoint path and/or the distance sensor signal detected is/are altered as a function of the state variable.

Method for calibration of a positional sensor on a rotational actuator device for control of a gas exchange valve in an internal combustion engine

Swivel actuator device for lift control of a gas exchange valve in a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine comprising a swivel motor having a shaft on which is provided a first operating element having a control path for opening the gas exchange valve, whereby a second operating element having a second control path provided on the first operating element. Due to the arrangement of the swivel actuator device, less electric power is needed at low rotational speeds and processing of the fuel mixture is improved.
