The invention relates to a method and a device for producing elementary oxygen or for increasing the concentration thereof in the inhaled air of a user. According to the invention, water is split into hydrogen and elementary oxygen by means of electrical energy (electrolysis), the elementary oxygen is mixed with the inhaled air, and the hydrogen is mixed with the surrounding air in order to be converted back into water (fuel reaction). The splitting of the water into hydrogen and elementary oxygen and the conversion of the hydrogen and surrounding air into water take place simultaneously and continuously, forming a reaction circuit, and are coupled to each other, the electrical energy produced during the conversion being used to reduce the energy demand for the splitting. To this end, an electrolyzer outfit for splitting water into hydrogen and elementary oxygen, and a fuel cell for converting the hydrogen and the surrounding air into water are electrically connected in such a way that they can conduct liquids.

Nasal breathing mask

The invention relates to a method and a device for determination of functional residual capacity (FRC) by introduction of helium or another inert gas mixture. According to the invention, a measurement apparatus measures the density of the gas mixture upon inspiration and upon expiration at the mouthpiece of a tube or at a mask during forced ventilation of a patient over a plurality of respiratory cycles. The FRC is determined from the difference in the gas concentrations.

Method and device for determination of the functional residual capacity

A lamp of low ozone generation is used as the flash lamp, to minimize the amount of ozone reaching the machine exterior. A first cooling-air passage includes the space surrounding the flash lamp and its reflector and is provided downstream thereof with an activated-carbon filter, from which is discharged a quite hot first cooling-air stream of low volumetric flow rate. A second cooling-air stream emerging from the electronics compartment of the machine is much cooler and cleaner and of high volumetric flow rate. The first and second cooling-air streams are mixed together, to dilute and cool the first, prior to actual discharge to the machine exterior. The mixed air streams are discharged in downwards direction.
