An enclosed connection system for connecting first and second elongate electrical conductors includes a transverse wedge connector and an enclosure. The transverse wedge connector includes an electrically conductive first connector member, an electrically conductive second connector member, and a clamping mechanism. The first connector member includes: a first body having inner and outer opposed ends; a first hook portion on the outer end of the first body, the first hook portion defining a first channel to receive the first conductor; and a first abutment portion on the inner end of the first body. The second connector member includes: a second body having inner and outer opposed ends; a second hook portion on the outer end of the second body, the second hook portion defining a second channel to receive the second conductor; and a second abutment portion on the inner end of the second body. The clamping mechanism is selectively operable to displace the first and second connector members relative to one another from an open position to a clamping position to clamp the first conductor in the first channel and between the first hook portion and the second abutment portion and to clamp the second conductor in the second channel and between the second hook portion and the first abutment portion to thereby form a connection. The enclosure is configured to receive and cover the connection and to protect the transverse wedge connector.

Connection enclosure assemblies, connector systems and methods for forming an enclosed connection between conductors

An electrical connector for use with a conductor includes a housing, a conductor member and a flowable sealant. The housing defines a port. The port includes: an entrance opening; an exit opening; and a conductor passage extending between and communicating with the entrance and exit openings, the conductor passage being adapted to receive the conductor therethrough. The conductor member is disposed in the housing. The sealant is disposed in the conductor passage. The sealant is adapted for insertion of the conductor therethrough and to the conductor member such that the sealant provides a seal about the inserted conductor. The sealant is positively pre-pressurized prior to insertion of the conductor into the sealant.

Electrical connector assemblies and methods for forming and using the same

A connection protector kit for use with an electrical stub connection assembly, the stub connection assembly including first and second conductors forming a connection and defining a crotch therebetween, includes an insert assembly. The insert assembly includes an insert member and a sealant pad mounted on the insert member. The insert assembly is adapted to fit within the crotch of the stub connection assembly. The kit may further include a cap defining a cavity and an opening communicating with the cavity, wherein the cavity and the opening are adapted to receive the stub connection assembly and the insert assembly is adapted to fit within the crotch of the stub connection assembly when the stub connection assembly is mounted in the cavity.

Electrical connection protector kits, insert assemblies and methods for using the same

An electrical connector system for use with a conductor includes an electrical connector and a plug assembly. The electrical connector includes a housing defining a conductor passage adapted to receive the conductor therethrough. The plug assembly includes a plug member and a plug sealant mounted on the plug member. The plug assembly is adapted to be inserted into the conductor passage to plug the conductor passage.

Electrical connector systems, plug systems and methods for using the same

An electrical connector for use with a conductor includes a housing defining a port. The port includes an entrance opening, an exit opening, and a conductor passage extending between and communicating with the entrance and exit openings. The conductor passage is adapted to receive the conductor therethrough. Sealant is disposed in the conductor passage. The sealant is adapted for insertion of the conductor therethrough such that the sealant provides a seal about the inserted conductor. A penetrable closure wall extends across the conductor passage.

Electrical connectors and methods for using the same

A busbar assembly for electrically connecting a plurality of conductors includes a housing defining an interior cavity and first and second ports. The first and second ports each include a conductor passage and communicate with the interior cavity. The conductor passages are each adapted to receive a conductor therethrough. An electrically conductive busbar conductor member is disposed in the interior cavity. At least one holding mechanism is provided to selectively secure each of the conductors to the busbar conductor member for electrical contact therewith. Sealant is disposed in the conductor passages of each of the first and second ports. The sealant is adapted for insertion of the conductors therethrough such that the sealant provides a seal about the inserted conductors. The sealant may be a gel.

A connection protector kit for use with an electrical stub connection includes a flexible cap having first and second opposed ends and an interior wall defining a cavity. The first end is closed and an opening is formed in the second end and communicates with the cavity. A gel is disposed in the cavity. The cavity and the gel are adapted to receive the stub connection. Retaining means may be provided to retain the cap on the connection.

Electrical connection protector kit and method for using the same

Wrap-around cable sleeves are provided for environmentally sealing a cable section. The cable sleeves include a wrap-around body member of an electrically insulating material and have a longitudinally extending portion with a corrugated lateral cross-section. The longitudinally extending portion defines a portion of a cable chamber extending around the cable section when the body member is wrapped around the cable section. A closure edge extends along a first longitudinal edge of the body member. A sealant chamber extends along a second longitudinal edge of the body member. The sealant chamber has an opening configured to receive the closure edge when the body member is wrapped around the cable section. A sealant material is positioned in the sealant chamber to environmentally seal the longitudinal edges of the body member when the body member is wrapped around the cable section. Methods of forming wrap-around cable sleeves are also provided.

Environmentally sealed wrap-around sleeves having a longitudinal sealant chamber

A wrap-around cable sleeve for environmentally sealing a cable section is provided where the wrap-around cable sleeve includes a longitudinally extending body comprising an electrically insulating material and having a longitudinally extending portion with a corrugated lateral cross-section. The longitudinally extending portion has a flexural modulus of between about 4,000 and 100,000 psi. The longitudinally extending portion defines a portion of a cable chamber. The cable chamber extends at least substantially around the cable section when the body is wrapped around the cable section. The cable chamber has a range taking in a radial direction of at least about 15 percent. The present invention may provide a wrap-around cable sleeve for protecting electrical cable sections of various shapes and sizes from the environment, including moisture as well as sharp objects. Methods of making such wrap-around cable sleeves are also provided.

Wrap-around cable sleeves having an expandable body portion and methods of making same

Wire separators for separating two or more wires in a multicore cable splice closure are provided. Wire separators of the present invention may promote the positioning of sealant material adjacent a crotch region defined by two or more wires exiting a sheath of a multicore cable. Wire separators of the present invention may form part of a cable splice closure for environmentally scaling a multicore cable and may reduce or prevent entry of moisture into the closure through the crotch region. Wire separators of the present invention may include a longitudinally extending side wall. The side wall may further extend circumferentially so as to define a sealant material reservoir. At least a portion of the side wall may include a flexible material. The wire separator may include a first longitudinally extending channel member coupled to the side wall of the sealant material reservoir and defining a first channel, and a second longitudinally extending channel member circumferentially spaced from the first channel member, coupled to the side wall of the sealant material reservoir and defining a second channel. A sealant material may be positioned within the sealant material reservoir. Cable splice closures employing such wire separators as well as methods for forming such cable splice closures are also provided.

Wire separators having sealant material reservoirs and cable splice closures employing such separators

An electrical device in which a first resistive element which is composed of a first electrically non-linear composition is in electrical contact, and preferably in physical and electrical contact, with a second resistive element which is composed of a second composition which has a resistivity of less than 100 ohm-cm. The first composition has a resistivity of more than 10.sup.9 ohm-cm and contains a first particulate filler. The second composition contains a second particulate filler which (a) is magnetic and electrically conductive, and (b) is aligned in discrete regions in the second polymeric component. The device also contains first and second electrodes which are positioned so that current can flow between the electrodes through the first and second resistive elements. Devices of the invention have relatively low breakdown voltages and can survive high energy fault conditions.
