The invention proposes an improved process and a device for cooling the internal surface of the wall of a pipe made of plastic during its manufacture by extrusion. The cooling agent is dispersed on the internal surface of the pipe by successive atomization at given time intervals. The cooling agent is advantageously dispersed by means of an injection which is displaced axially inside the pipe in a reciprocating movement. The injector may be advantageously equipped with means providing a rotating cone of dispersed droplets.

In a process and device for making an electrically connection between two end sections of two cable ducts, each duct having one electrically conducting wire, embedded in a wall of the duct and enclosed on all sides it is suggested to fit a collar comprising separable elements around the end section of each cable duct, to connect the collars by an electrically conducting cable, to achieve electrical contact between the detector wire and the conducting cable and to clamp the separable elements together.

In a multi-chamber centrifuge for gassing or degassing of liquids which has a floor 7, a corresponding lid 3 placed at a certain distance, with gaps to permit the passage of gas in the floor 7 and lid 3, with a liquid pipe connection in the lid 3 and two sets of coaxially mutually fitting cylinders, the set (=rotor) with the rotating cylinders rises from the floor 7, while the other set (=stator) descends from the lid 3 and is static. The cylinders of one set each penetrate the gaps between the cylinders of the other set, and each set of cylinders leaves a radial gap by reaching just short of the opposite base (either the floor 7 or the lid 3). At least some of the cylinders of the rotating set can be made at least partially of a woven material which can be fashioned like a sieve. In a thin film evaporator for the evaporation of solutions, colloids, suspensions, or the like, to concentrates, which has a heatable cylindrical evaporator casing coupled with a rotary drive, which evaporator casing has a feed inlet at one end, in the form of a feed distributor that runs on bearings and is coupled with a rotary drive, and at the other end has a concentrate discharge, the axis of the evaporator casing is arranged horizontally. The distal end of the feed distributor can reach the inside surface of the evaporator casing to within less than 2 cm. Wiper elements can work together with the effective surface of the evaporator casing. This thin film evaporator makes possible an optimal setting of the retention time of the process material to be treated in the evaporator casing and has the effect that the thickness of the layer of the process material changes very little over the entire axial length.

In a process and a device for fitting at least one electrically conducting detector wire in a plastic cable duct which can be laid in the ground so that said detector wire is embedded and surrounded on all sides, it is suggested to make a wire-receiving groove in a wall of the duct, then to lay the wire in the receiving groove, and finally to lead a separate, softened filler material into the receiving groove and weld it to the duct wall. A method and apparatus is disclosed for the production of plate glass. A glass melting furnace containing molten glass connects with an outflow furnace in such fashion that central layers of molten glass in the glass melting furnace are conveyed to the outflow furnace. The outflow furnace connects with an outflow nozzle which forms a flat glass band from which the plate glass is cut. The outflow speed of the glass band issuing from the outflow nozzle is regulated by a static pressure adjustment determined by a height of the molten glass in the separate outflow furnace. A supply channel to the nozzle preferably contains heating electrodes for resistance heating of the molten glass prior to issuance from the nozzle.

Apparatus and a method for forming a uniform film of plastic material, having good optical characteristics, on a substrate are disclosed. The plastic material is supplied to and maintained under pressure in a distribution channel and is fed from the distribution channel through a narrow slot to the substrate. A forming member subsequently forms the plastic material into a uniform film on the substrate. The level of the plastic material in front of the forming member is limited to a range of values based upon the thickness of the film being formed.

Method and apparatus for the continuous production of transparent films, sheets, or plates of high optical quality are disclosed. Material in liquid form flows onto a substrate comprising a plurality of discrete, distortion-free panels, disposed in end-to-end abutting relationship and moved continuously beneath a flow head from which the material flows onto the panels. The panels move on a conveyor system that progressively slows the speed of the plates, so that leading and trailing edges of successive panels abut to form a continuous surface as the panels pass beneath the flow head. Yieldable, elastic sealing strips are placed between the panels to form a part of the continuous surface and to cushion jolts as succeeding panels are moved from the upstream end of the conveyor and come into contact with the continuous line of panels passing beneath the flow head. Panels that are newly added to the upstream end of the line come into contact with the endmost panel in the line when the sealing strips are disposed beneath the flow head.

The invention relates to an apparatus for the assembly or permanent adhesion of sheets of glass with sheets of plastic material, comprising a pair of pressure rollers between which one passes the layers superimposed for assembly, which rollers being provided with, on a length corresponding at least with the size of the layers to be assembled, a hollow elastic covering which is filled with a fluid under pressure. In each roller the elastic covering is mounted to the roller (in a manner similar to a vehicle tire) by means of two rim-like elements, one of which is movable axially of the roller toward and from the other such rim. The elastic covering is like a tire but oversize in the axial direction. By adjusting one of the rims relative to the other, or the fluid pressure or both, the shape of the elastic tire-like member may be modified within wide limits to accommodate sheets of glass having complex, compound curves.
