Consistency-controlled headbox for a paper machine with a common feed line for a pulp slurry, a plurality of feed line sections into which the common feed line branches, and a system for influencing the composition of the slurry flows in each of the plurality of feed line sections. At least one pulp consistency sensor is provided for sectional pulp consistency control, which may be located in a return portion of the pulp distributing line. A weight basis cross-sectional adjustment sensor and controller may also be used; with the pulp consistency controller arranged to operate with a significantly higher sensing rate than the weight basis cross-sectional adjustment controller.

The process of this invention serves for the damping of pressure pulsations in a fluid, particularly a fiber suspension, flowing in a closed system wherein the pressure pulsations to be damped are measured at a measuring site and compensated at a correction site, with a throttle position being located between the measuring and the correction sites, with the damping of the imparted pressure impulses occurring at the correction site, which pressure impulses are opposite to the measured pressure pulsations, with the time periods thereof being about the same as those of the measured pressure pulsations. The method serves for actively damping vibrations on a paper-making machine. The kinematic quantities which describes the movements of the paper-making machine or parts thereof produced by the vibrations are measured and are processed as measurement signals. Between relatively movable masses, at least one of which belongs to the vibratable structure of the paper-making machine, is provided at least one servo motor which is controlled by a control unit. Movement of this servo motor is produced in such a way that it is directed opposite to the vibrational movement to be damped. The movement produced in this way for damping the vibrations can be produced both between parts of the paper-making machine and between part of the paper-making machine and a movable additional mass provided expressly for this purpose. A damper which can also be incorporated into the servo motor can be provided to reduce the vibrational energy. The force effect of the servo motor can be caused for example by a pressure medium, by piezo crystals or by magnetostrictive elements. If necessary, several natural forms of vibrations which occur on the paper-making machine structure to be damped can be damped by means of the method.

For uniform and regular adjustment of a diaphragm blade within the elastic deformability thereof, the diaphragm blade provided at the slice opening of a headbox of a papermaking machine is movable by means of adjusting elements driveable by adjustment motors. The adjusting elements are arranged in an appropriate spaced relationship substantially parallel to the diaphragm blade and coupled therewith in order to apply a force upon the diaphragm blade at connecting locations thereof. At each of the adjustment motors there can be individually set or adjusted during an adjusting operation prior to starting the adjustment motors the momentarily desired thrust speed and the momentarily desired thrust distance or travel for the respective adjusting element. All adjustment motors are simultaneously started and simultaneously stopped subsequent to reaching the desired position or location of the diaphragm blade. Electric step motors operating in a fixed cycle are particularly suitable for simultaneously starting and simultaneously stopping the adjusting operation. The apparatus and the therewith performable adjusting operation are controllable and programmable by known electronic means.
