A device for the placing of a spreader in the hind legs of a slaughtered animal comprising two penetration devices, each of which comprises a penetration pin provided with a pointed end, a penetration tube which is movable in the axial direction and is open at one end, the penetration pin being axially accommodated within the penetration tube and the penetration pin being movable within the penetration tube in the axial direction, and a slide-off mechanism which is movable relative to the penetration tube. In operation, the laps of the slaughtered animal are positioned relative to the penetration device and the toes of the slaughtered animal are bent relative to its legs virtually at a right angle with the aid of a toe presser. The penetration tube with the penetration pin projecting therefrom is inserted through a hind leg of the slaughtered animal between the bone and the tendons thereof, the penetration pin is retracted into the penetration tube, the hind legs are spread, the opening of each penetration tube is placed over a corresponding end of the spreader, each hind leg is moved off the penetration tube onto the corresponding end of the spreader by means of the slide-off mechanism, and the penetration tubes are freed from the ends of the spreader.

The invention relates to a device (27) for centering, aligning and clamping a rigid optical disc (29) in an operating position on a disc drive unit, which disc has a center hole which is bounded by a wall (88). The device comprises a rotatable drive spindle (57) with a centering device (63) which is situated near its free end (59) and which comprises a plurality of radially movable centering members (65) and which are pivotally connected to the drive spindle and which each comprise at least one centering surface (65b), which centering surfaces are pressed against said wall of the disc in the operating position of the disc. The centering members each comprise a radial limb (73) having an end (73a) which cooperates with a sliding bush (75) which is arranged coaxially around the drive spindle, and there are provided actuating means (83) for axially sliding the sliding bush from a first position, in which the centering members are in an operating position to center and clamp the disc, to a second position in which the centering members are in a more inward release position to mount or remove the disc. Further, there are provided resilient means (77) for returning the sliding bush from the second to the first position and for moving the centering members from their release position to their operating position (FIG. 2).

A method of providing transverse elements to be arranged in a consecutive series side by side on a driving belt with curved surfaces by which they support the driving belt. The surfaces obtain a curvature by replacing the driving belt by an endless grinding band having grinding material on its inner side engaging the said surfaces and running the whole on two pulleys, one of which has a smaller diameter than the other one. The grinding band has longitudinal zones with different abrasing capacities, for example by providing the band with a longitudinal range of gaps in its middle zone. In this way the supporting surfaces obtain simultaneously a curvature in the running direction of the belt and in a direction opposite thereto.

The forming simultaneously of a series of cylindrical metal belts in a range of slightly different measures suitable to be fitted into each other into a multiple layer driving belt. The belts are formed from a series of blanks of tubular material, having the same diameter. Two parallel rotatable rolls, having a length exceeding the total length of the series of blanks are inserted through the series of blanks which are positioned side by side along the said length. One of the said inserted rolls is a stretch roll having a relatively small diameter with respect to a pair of work rolls of large diameter between which the tubing-stretch roll assembly is engaged in a position offset to one side of the plane containing the axes of the said work rolls. On the other side of the said plane the other of the said inserted rolls is urged in a direction away from the said plane as a tensioning roller, which has a step up range of slightly different diameters for areas along its length each engaging one of the said blanks.

A fully hydraulic control mechanism for an infinitely variable cone pulley gear. The torque is transmitted by the intermediary of an oil cushion in a coupling between a driving and a driven element providing for a torque-dependent oil pressure in an oil circuit. The oil circuit delivers pressure on surfaces of different size of axially movable discs for primary and secondary cone pairs between which a transmission belt is running. The oil circuit leads from the primary to the secondary cone pair through a pressure reduction device which is under speed-ratio progressive control.
