An apparatus for coupling out radiation from an optical fiber, includes a housing, and a stop having a stop opening for delimiting an output coupling angle of radiation that is coupled out of an output end of the optical fiber to a maximum output coupling angle with respect to a central axis of the stop opening, wherein the stop is arranged in the housing. The stop has a stop body made from a transparent material, the stop body has a first total internal reflection face for reflecting radiation that is coupled out of the output end of the optical fiber with greater output coupling angles than the maximum output coupling angle, and the stop body has a second total internal reflection face for reflecting radiation that propagates opposite to the radiation coupled out of the output end and is reflected back by a workpiece.

Wavelength-selective external resonators can be used to greatly increase the output brightness of dense wavelength beam combining (DWBC) system beams by stabilizing the wavelengths of the beams emitted by the individual emitters of the DWBC laser source. The present invention pertains to external resonant cavities that utilize thin-film filtering elements as wavelength-selective elements in external resonators. The present invention further pertains to particular embodiments that utilize thin-film filtering elements in DWBC systems as both output beam coupling elements and wavelength selective elements. An optical fiber is designed to transmit high-power laser radiation. The optical fiber includes a fiber core, and an inner fiber cladding surrounding the fiber core, where the inner fiber cladding is configured to carry the laser radiation in the fiber core. The optical fiber also includes a first outer fiber cladding surrounding the inner fiber cladding. The first outer fiber cladding has a capillary-free longitudinal section and has a smaller refractive index than the refractive index of the inner fiber cladding. The optical fiber includes an outermost fiber cladding surrounding the first outer fiber cladding. The outermost fiber cladding has scattering centers that surround the capillary-free longitudinal section, where the scattering centers scatter laser radiation emerging from the inner fiber cladding through the first outer fiber cladding along the capillary-free section.

An optical fiber comprises a hollow fiber core, wherein the front faces of both fiber ends of the hollow fiber core are open and each fiber end is surrounded by a protection element in a dustproof fashion. The protection element includes a window at its front face in front of the fiber end to couple and decouple light to and from the hollow fiber core.

To improve a diode laser device comprising at least one laser diode, a power supply for the laser diode, a cooling device including a heat sink with the laser diode disposed thereon, and a coolant supply allowing a coolant to flow through the heat sink, so that simple monitoring of its operation is possible without interfering with use of the diode laser device, it is proposed that an operation monitoring device be provided, and that the operation monitoring device detect a quantity representing the electric current flowing through the laser diode and a quantity representing the temperature of the coolant exiting from the heat sink and determine from these an operational quantity representing operation of the diode laser device.
