A valve for a cold gas generator for an airbag in a vehicle includes: a valve chamber; a control chamber; a control piston; an overflow channel; a retaining element; and a shutoff element. The valve chamber includes an inlet from the cold gas generator and an outlet to the airbag. The control piston separates the control chamber and the valve chamber. The control piston is movable between an open position and a closed position, the control piston releasing the outlet in the open position and closing it in the closed position. The control piston has (i) a first active piston surface on the side of the valve chamber, and (ii) a second active piston surface on the side of the control chamber. The first piston surface is smaller than the second piston surface. The overflow channel fluidically connects the valve chamber and the control chamber to one another.

Valve for a cold gas generator and airbag system

An activation device for a protection device includes: a body with a chamber that has, respectively at first and second ends, a medium inlet opening to a medium storage and a valve opening, and an outlet opening for discharging the medium into the protection device between the first and second ends; a valve for opening and closing the valve opening for passage of the medium; and a piston that (a) includes a passage along a main extension axis, from a first surface thereof adjacent to the medium inlet opening, to a second surface thereof, larger than the first surface and adjacent to the valve opening, and (b) is movable in the chamber by the medium and as a function of the control valve position between a position in which the at least one outlet opening is closed and a position in which the at least one outlet opening is opened.

An actuator module including a piezoactuator, for example for a piezoinjector for metering fuel in an internal combustion engine, is proposed. The piezoactuator has piezoelements stacked one above another between an actuator head and an actuator foot and is provided with at least one elastomer layer enclosing the piezoelements. The elastomer layer is enveloped by a corrugated bellows or by telescopic tubes, composed of a material that is diffusion-impermeable with respect to a fuel to be metered by the piezoinjector. The corrugated bellows or the telescopic tubes have on their periphery grooves which can absorb expansions of the elastomer layer or of the piezoactuator.

Actuator module with a sheathed piezoelectric actuator

A piezoelectric actuator module having a multilayer structure of piezoelectric elements is proposed as a piezoelectric actuator, wherein a different polarity of an electric voltage is alternately applied to inner electrodes which are arranged between piezoelectric layers of the piezoelectric elements in the direction of the layer structure of the piezoelectric elements, said module having an actuator foot and an actuator head composed of steel and having an elastic insulation medium which surrounds at least the piezoelectric elements in predefined limits. At least one annular groove or recess, into which a material which can be crosslinked with the insulation medium is vulcanized, is provided on the actuator foot and/or on the actuator head, and a flexible, weldable hose or sheath lies encompasses the piezoelectric element, and at least above the grooves or recesses containing the material as an insulation medium the weldable hose is welded to the material in the grooves or recesses.

Piezoelectric actuator module having a sheath, and a method for its production

A piezoelectric actuator with piezoelectric elements, fastened between an actuator head and an actuator foot, and with a plastic sleeve surrounding at least the piezoelectric elements is proposed, which is set in a clamping ring on the actuator head and/or the actuator foot of the piezoelectric actuator. The respective clamping ring may be a metal part or a plastic part, which is equipped with clamping lugs suitable for setting the plastic sleeve and is thrust, pressed, or shrunk onto the respective actuator head and/or actuator foot of the steel piezoelectric actuator.

A fuel injector with a direct needle control for an internal combustion engine, having an actuator, a hydraulic booster, and a nozzle needle guided in a nozzle body and acting on a nozzle needle sealing seat. The hydraulic booster includes a booster piston connected to the actuator and a nozzle needle booster piston connected to the nozzle needle; a booster chamber in the form of an actuator coupler chamber is associated with a pressure surface of the actuator booster piston; and depending on the pressure in the actuator coupler chamber, the nozzle needle is lifted away from the nozzle needle sealing seat, thus initiating an injection. In addition to the actuator booster piston, a control element is provided that is able to execute a stroke motion, is hydraulically coupled to the actuator coupler chamber by means of a first control surface, and is associated with a control chamber by means of a second control surface. The actuator booster piston has a second pressure surface, which, as an additional control surface, is associated with the control chamber.

Fuel injector with direct needle control for an internal combustion engine

The invention relates to a piezoelectric actuator, in particular for actuating control valves or injection valves of internal combustion engines in motor vehicles, having a circular, cylindrical piezoelectric actuator body in the form of a multilayered laminate made up of stacked layers of piezoelectric material with intervening metallic or electrically conductive, alternating first and second electrode layers that function as electrodes, wherein these first and second electrode layers alternatingly contact a first and second electrically conductive common electrode connection. Either the piezoelectric actuator body has either an internal longitudinal bore and at least the first common electrode connection is provided on the inner wall of the actuator body constituted by the internal longitudinal bore and contacts every first electrode layer there or alternatively, the actuator body has no internal bore and the first and second electrode layers are respectively exposed on the outer cylinder wall of the actuator body at points angularly offset from one another and respectively contact the first and second electrode connections there.

Piezoelectric actuator with double comb electrodes

A piezoelectric actuator in which a piezoelectric element is present for subjecting an actuating element to a tensile or compressive stress. A sleeve is secured to a foot part, to which the piezoelectric element is secured and by way of which the piezoelectric element is kept centered in a housing under mechanical prestressing, and this sleeve surrounds the piezoelectric element in such a way as to stabilize it mechanically, at least in partial regions that are electrically insulated from the piezoelectric element. Between the sleeve and the piezoelectric element, a heat-conducting elastomer is placed, and the sleeve comprises a heat-conducting material that is deformable within predetermined limits.

Piezo actuator

A piezoelectric actuator having a plurality of plates of a piezoelectric material whose polarization direction runs perpendicularly to the plate plane, and which are stacked one over another in their polarization direction. The piezoelectric actuator includes a control voltage source having two contacts, two groups of at least two outer electrodes, respectively, and a plurality of internal electrodes which, in each case, are arranged between the piezoelectric plates. In this context, the outer electrodes of the first group are electrically connected to a first contact of control voltage source, and the outer electrodes of the second group to the second contact of control voltage source. Internal electrodes alternately contact outer electrodes in such a way that, in each case, an internal electrode is electrically connected to one contact of control voltage source, and the internal electrode that is next in the stacking direction is electrically connected to the other contact of control voltage source. The internal electrodes contact the outer electrodes in a cyclic sequence.

The invention relates to a piezoelectric actuator, in particular for actuating control valves or injection valves in motor vehicles, having an actuator body in the form of a multilayered laminate made up of stacked layers of piezoelectric material with intervening metallic or electrically conductive layers that function as electrodes, and the end faces of this actuator body are respectively contacted by a top plate oriented toward the valve having an axially protruding valve tappet and a bottom plate at the opposite end, wherein the actuator rests in an axial bore of a valve housing and is prestressed at the ends in the axial direction between the top plate and the bottom plate by means of a spring element. According to the invention, the actuator&mdash;at least including the top plate&mdash;is enclosed by an electrically insulating elastomer sleeve so that when installed, the actuator with the elastomer sleeve rests snugly against the inner wall of the axial bore of the valve housing in the vicinity of the actuator.

A piezoelectric actuator has a plurality of disks made of piezoelectric material, arranged to form a stack in a stack direction, a plurality of flat inside electrodes arranged in alternation with the disks made of piezoelectric material, and at least two outside electrodes applied to the outside of the stack along the stack direction, the inside electrodes each being connected in alternation to one of the outside electrodes by a contact zone. The outside electrodes are applied to the outside of the stack in the form of a coating of an elastic, electrically conductive polymer material.
