Relative movement is effected between the original and the projection system of the copying machine, and the latter projects images of successive transverse strip-shaped sections of the original onto the recording medium. The projection system comprises a plurality of lens-row systems. Each lens-row system includes a first lens row which receives light from a strip-shaped section of the original and projects into an intermediate image plane, and a second lens row which receives light from the intermediate image plane and projects that light onto the recording medium. The lens-row systems are spaced apart in a direction transverse to the direction of elongation of the individual lens rows. The light passing through each lens-row system includes a plurality of central rays, each passing through the optical center of one lens element of the first lens row and through the optical center of the corresponding lens element of the second lens row. Optical deflecting structure is utilized to cause the central rays of the plural lens-row systems to converge both in the vicinity of the original and in the vicinity of the recording medium. Thus, when the plural lens-row systems image onto the recording medium a particular strip-shaped section of the original, this section is being imaged onto the recording medium by all lens-row systems simultaneously, not successively.

Exposure system for copying machines

In an electrophotographic copier a fusing station is provided at which a toner image previously formed on a copy carrier is fixed on the carrier by fusing. The fusing station includes a flash tube which, when discharged, produces the heat required for the fusing operation. The electrical energy required by the flash tube is supplied from a flash capacitor. To avoid current spikes during charging of the flash capacitor the same receives its current from a drive system which includes a motor-driven generator in circuit with the flash tube; the inertia of the drive system acts as a buffer between the flash capacitor and the current supply source and prevents the occurrence of current peaks during the charging of the capacitor.

Electrophotographic copier

A copying apparatus is disclosed wherein an original is scanned by a light beam which is then transmitted along a path to the photosensitive surface of an imaging drum. A pair of baffles is arranged symmetrically relative to the aforementioned path and a motion-transmitting arrangement is provided, which is controlled from outside the copying apparatus and which serves to synchronously pivot the baffles into and out of the path to thereby control the amount of light which reaches the photosensitive surface of the drum.

A web with overlays for use in the document presentation device of a photographic copying machine has several sheet-like sections with overlapping portions which are separably coupled to each other by snap fasteners and carry overlays which are welded thereto by the application of heat and pressure. The overlays are applied to those sides of the sections which are coated with layers of photographic emulsion.

An electrophotographic copying apparatus wherein the original is placed face down onto a stationary transparent holder which is located above a reciprocating carriage for a lens element. The latter images the original onto a light receiving surface which travels along a straight path while the carriage moves in the same direction as the light receiving surface. The carriage can be moved by an eccentric drive, by a wiper which is attached to an endless belt or chain, or by a cam and follower assembly. The original is illuminated by flash lamps which are fired automatically while the carriage moves in the same direction as the light receiving surface.

Exposure system for electrophotographic copying apparatus

An electrostatic copying machine wherein a carriage is reciprocable between a horizontal copyboard for originals and the flat upper reach of an endless backing belt the outer side of which has a photosensitive surface. The carriage supports at least one exposing device which exposes line images of the original onto the upper side of the upper reach of the belt while the carriage moves from a starting position and the belt is at a standstill. The carriage further supports a corotron which is mounted ahead of the exposing device and charges successive increments of the upper reach, and a developing device which applies toner particles to the electrostatic image on the upper reach. The belt is thereupon moved to transfer the thus obtained powder image onto a paper sheet. The exposing device has several strip-shaped optical imaging components, and the developing device employs a rotary magnetic drum or a set of magnets which are fixedly mounted on the carriage. If the carriage supports several corotrons, several exposing devices and several developing devices, each exposing device contains a differently colored filter so that the powder image is a color image of the original on the copyboard.

Electrostatic copying machine

A copying machine wherein successive finished sheets issue from an opening in the front wall of the housing in such positions that the printed matter is observable from above. Successive sheets pass below an observation window which is adjacent to the opening so that the quality of printed matter can be observed from above. The sheets are thereupon inverted so that the printed matter faces downwardly, and are stacked on top of each other in a tray having a bottom panel the inner end portion of which constitutes the observation window. The sheets are inverted in a channel having an inlet below the observation window and an outlet above the end of the tray which is remote from the opening.

Apparatus for manipulating finished reproductions in copying machines

In an electrostatic copier using a particulate developer mix the invention provides a source of the mix, a supply ramp having an inlet end located higher than the source, and a conveyor for conveying the developer mix from the source to the inlet end of the supply ramp. The conveyor is composed of an endless flexible belt trained about at least one driven roller and having one end portion which extends into the source and another end portion which discharges onto the inlet end of the ramp. A plurality of pins is anchored in the belt and projects from a conveying surface thereof so as to entrain the developer mix from the source.
