A method for controlling an electric parking brake for a motor vehicle including a brake actuator having an electric motor disposed directly on the brake caliper. When the parking brake is utilized as an additional service brake, depending on a brake pedal brake command, the electric motor is initially energized on detection of an imminent or commencing brake-pedal actuation however the electric motor generates no braking force until a predetermined or specific brake command is received. As a result, an overload of the vehicle voltage source is avoided if simultaneous utilization of multiple parking-brake actuators occurs.

Electric parking brake control and method

A method for operating a service brake system in a vehicle is described. The method includes the stages of determining whether the vehicle is stationary, and detecting whether the brake pressure exceeds a predetermined value in that stationary state. If the brake pressure value exceeds the predetermined value, as part of final stage, the method includes regulating the brake pressure to a predefined limiting value, where the predefined limiting value is sufficient to maintain the vehicle in that stationary state.

The output power of the electric motor-operated braking pressure generator is restricted during normal driving/braking situations and the restriction is temporarily deactivated upon identification of a critical driving situation, such as an overstressing of the brake system to include brake fade.

Method for operating a hydraulic brake system

A method for reducing the braking distance for a vehicle having an anti-lock braking mechanism (ABS) and a hydraulic braking system detects a brake pressure requested by the vehicle's driver (P), and calculates the brakes pressure values at which the wheels of the vehicle lock. A maximum brake pressure value of these different brake pressure values is then compared with the driver's requested brake pressure value (P). If the requested brake pressure value is much higher than the maximum brake pressure value, then the actual brake pressure applied at different wheels (P) is set to a level below the requested brake pressure (P), but still higher than the maximum brake pressure value. This reduces the amount of work required to be done by the ABS in pumping the excessive brake fluid out of the braking system of the vehicle, and allows for precise control of ABS mechanism during wheel slip conditions.

The present disclosure provides a hydraulic brake system for a motor vehicle and a method for the detection of a fault condition of the hydraulic brake system. A deceleration of a vehicle is determined based on one or more wheel speeds of the vehicle. A brake pressure of the vehicle is determined. A model of a relationship of the deceleration and the brake pressure is produced. At least one of a vehicle load and a vehicle weight is determined by using the model. The brake pressure is adapted to at least one of the determined vehicle load and the vehicle weight.

Adapting a braking process

A method for testing a hydraulic braking system. The method includes activating a brake master cylinder of the braking system mechatronically, and measuring a set of measured decision ratios pertaining to the distance travelled by the piston of the brake master cylinder to the corresponding pressure developed in the brake fluid. The measured decision ratios are then compared with a set of reference decision ratios. In a case where the measured decision ratios lie within a predetermined range, it is detected that the braking system is correctly filled with the brake fluid. However, in a case where the measured decision ratios lie outside the predetermined range, it is determined that the braking system has not been correctly filled with the brake fluid and some air is present in the brake fluid flow circuit of the braking system.
