In an apparatus for fixing a roll ring 4 on a roll shaft 2 mounted in two parallel roll stands 1a, 1b on both sides of the roll ring, by means of a tensioning means 18 and an axially tensionable conical sleeve 8 a radial tension is generated in the roll ring 4. In addition, the conical sleeve 8 carries the roll shaft bearing 3a. To enable the axial and radial tensioning of the roll ring 4 to be adjusted simply and accurately in spite of the additional roll shaft bearing 3a, the tensioning means 18 acts on the one hand on the conical sleeve 8 via a first thrust transmitting means passing through the roll stand 1a and on the other hand on the roll ring 4 clamped between two thrust rings 22, 23 via a second thrust transmitting means passing through the roll stand, one of the two thrust transmitting means also receiving the roll shaft bearing 3a.

Apparatus for fixing a roll ring on a roll shaft

An apparatus for hardening rails having a rail foot, a rail head, which is to be hardened, and a web between the rail foot and the rail head comprises a dip basin for receiving the rail head, a manipulator for receiving from a feeder individual consecutive rails supported at their head and foot and for dipping the head of each rail into the dip basin, and a delivery conveyor for carrying the treated rails away from the dip basin. In order to provide such an apparatus in which the manipulator which has a simple design and which permits a monitoring of the rails as they are handled, the manipulator comprises carrying arms, which are disposed on opposite longitudinal sides of the dip basin and are displaceable in height and pivoted on an axis which extends in the longitudinal direction of the dip basin and said carrying arms have supporting brackets, which are so arranged that when the rail is in position for being hardened with the rail head at the bottom of the rail the supporting brackets protrude from the carrying arms toward the web of the rail and engage the rail foot from below.

Apparatus for hardening rails

In a coiler-furnace unit comprising a coiler for coiling a metal strip, a sleeve (2), which comprises heating means (3) for heating the coiler mandrel (1) and is adapted to be axially displaced over the coiler mandrel (1), and a heat-insulating shell (7) associated with said sleeve, a uniform heating of the coiled strip and a low dissipation of heat are ensured in that the heat-insulating shell (7) is mounted to be axially displaceable toward the coiler mandrel (1) relative to the sleeve (2) and is provided with a passage slot (18) for receiving the metal strip.

Coiler-furnace unit

A coiler comprises an expanding core comprising a tubular coiler shaft and an expanding mechanism, which is accommodated in the tubular coiler shaft and operable to extend heatable extensible segments. Heat insulating material and cooling means are provided between the heatable part of the expanding core and the coiler shaft. In order to restrict the dissipation of heat. Pressure applying tubes having axes which are radial with respect to the coiler shaft are provided between the expanding mechanism and the extensible segments. The wall thickness of said pressure applying tubes increases toward the extensible segments. Cooling means are provided between the pressure applying tubes and the expanding mechanism.

Coiler

For a heating of a coil of strip with hot gas without an increased formation of scale, a coiler-furnace unit comprising a heat-insulating housing, a coiler mandrel disposed in said housing, and a heating tube which is adapted to surround the coiler mandrel and to heat the latter, is characterized in that the heating tube consists of a radiant inner tube, which is enclosed by a shell, at least one hot gas passage is defined between the inner tube and the shell, the heat-insulating housing is double-walled to define at least one flow passage, and the outlet opening of the hot gas passage of the heating tube communicates with an inlet opening of the flow passage of the heat-insulating housing in at least one axial position of the heating tube.

A coiler-furnace unit comprises a coiler having a heatable coiler mandrel, which is disposed in a heat insulating housing, and strip guiding means comprising pressure applying rollers for engaging a strip to be coiled at least two cylindrical guide shoes, which extend around and are engageable with the coiler mandrel. In order to avoid heat losses, at least one heat insulating shielding element is provided, which is adapted to be introduced into the annular clearance defined on one side by the guide shoes when they have been retracted from the coiler mandrel and by the pressure-applying rollers and on the other side by the coiler mandrel or the strip coiled on said mandrel.

A plant for hot-rolling strip or plate stock comprises roller conveyors for conveying the stock to be rolled, which is guided on the roller conveyors by side guards, which are provided on the roller conveyors near their side edges and adjustable transversely to the direction of travel on the roller conveyors. To ensure that on such roller conveyor provided with the side guards the cooling of the stock to be rolled will be minimized, the roller conveyors are provided with coverings, which are supported by the side guards and movable in unison with at least one of the side guards.
