An apparatus is available for transferring a flexible material web from an upstream section to at least one downstream section of a machine having a web running direction. The machine is configured for at least one of manufacturing and treating the material web. The apparatus includes two separation elements configured for splitting and thereby separating the material web into an edge strip, an adjoining transfer strip and a remaining web adjoining the transfer strip, the edge strip extending in the web running direction. The apparatus further includes at least one deflection device configured for deflecting the edge strip away from the transfer strip and simultaneously tautening the edge strip upon deflection thereof.

A method is provided using a winder to afford precise adjustment, preferably control of the progression of line force between the reel drum and the wound roll despite unevenness in the surface contour of the wound roll, and ensures that no air entrapment occurs between the individual layers in the wound roll. Further, the &ldquo;wound in&rdquo; web tension is maintained during the entire winding process.

A carrier roll winding machine for winding up a web, such as a paper web. Two carrier rolls form a winding bed for a reel and the reel is fed with a web wrapped around the bottom of and then passing between the two rolls and to the reel. A blow box beneath the space between the carrier rolls having a compressed air connection. The blow box has a respective wall at each of the carrier rolls and a sealing element at each of the walls sealing to the respective carrier roll. The region, of at least one wall or of both walls, supporting the sealing element are movable from the sealing position to a non-sealing position either by translatory movement or pivoting movement with reference to the remaining stationary wall parts of the blow box. A web severing device is movable to sever the web when a wall portion and sealing element are moved away from the carrier roll permitting the severing device to pass to the web.

Method and device for the continuous winding up of a moving web

An air box for use beneath a pair of carrier rolls or a roll winder for a web. The air box disposed beneath the carrier rolls has first and second side walls generally sealed respectively at each of the carrier rolls. The paper web passes beneath one of the carrier rolls and up between the rolls. The web may tear and the paper web then drops into the air box. A connecting wall in the air box between the side walls thereof and above the base receives the paper falling thereon rather than the paper falling into the air box. The connecting wall may be inclined to direct the falling paper toward a side wall where an opening is provided enabling the moving of the paper. The connecting wall may be perforated and the air flow into the air box is beneath the perforated wall so that the air flow through the wall cooperates in moving the falling paper along the connecting wall. As a result, the waste paper can be removed quickly and easily.

A paper machine carrier drum apparatus includes a drivable carrier drum and a cylinder disposed adjacent the carrier drum. The cylinder is disposed parallel to an axis of the carrier drum and can be swiveled about a peripheral region of the drum. The apparatus also includes a guide roll disposed upstream of the carrier drum with respect to a direction of travel of a paper web through the apparatus and a pressure roll disposed adjacent to the drum and adjustably pressable thereagainst. The pressure roll can be moved to a number of positions about a periphery of the drum.

There is provided a coiling machine for coiling a continuous paper web having two large rolls that form a coil bed for uptake of a paper coil. The space bounded by the large rolls and the coil is formed as a pressure-tight chamber that has a compressed air connection. Particularly for the present invention, one of the two large rolls has a jacket that is essentially more intensely deformable than the jacket of the other roll and, thus, one large roll is softer than the other large roll. The upper vertex of the softer large roll is located lower than the upper vertex of the harder large roll. The web guidance is configured for one embodiment of the coiling machine such that the web is introduced from below, and between the two large rolls, to wind around the softer large roll. For another embodiment of the coiling machine, the web is introduced through a pressing gap between one of the large rolls and the coil.

An applicator system for applying color coating on a paper web is disclosed having a color coating applicator along with a backing roll around which is wrapped the paper web. A measuring system is incorporated for measuring a predetermined property of the color coating at several points along the width of the paper web. Predetermined qualities of the color coating include weight, thickness, or surface properties of the coated surface. A control means is included for controlling the color coating arriving at the application zone. The color coating is controlled by varying the temperature, or the consistency of the color coating in a zonewise fashion across the width of the paper web.

A device for coating a paper web includes two applicator rolls disposed parallel to one another, forming a roll gap for the passage of a paper web therethrough. At least one applicator for applying a coating onto a surface of at least one of the rolls is also provided. The coating roll thereafter transfers the coating onto one side of a paper web disposed in the roll gap. Guide elements disposed downstream of the roll gap with respect to a direction of travel of the paper web through the device include at least one beam-like air guide element adapted to create an air cushion-between the paper web and a surface of the air guide element facing the paper web. The air guide element is disposed in such a manner as to deflect a paper web at least once downstream the roll gap. At least one air guide element is disposed directly downstream of the roll gap at a distance from the roll gap of about 0.3 times to about 1 time the diameter of at least one of the rolls.

An applicator for application of coating color on a paper web, including an applicator; a backing roll which wraps the paper web; an entrance gore formed between backing roll and applicator, and an outlet gore. A doctor follows the outlet gore for removing surplus coating color (doctor surplus) from the paper web. A deflector system is provided between the applicator and the doctor. The deflector system features a first guide surface for diverting a first coating color surplus from the outlet gore, as well as a second guide surface for the doctor surplus.

A winding device for paper or cardboard with at least two axis-parallel support elements for the sheet winding, which extend at least over the length of the sheet winding (T) and of which at least one is a carrier roll (2). The other support element has a rigid carrier (4), which guides the sheet winding over a sheath (7, 7') arranged in a rotating manner around the carrier or guided in a flexible tubing manner, and a carrying shoe (5, 5') combined with it and acting hydrodynamically with respect to sheath (7, 7'), which carrying shoe is provided with a concave pressure surface whose radius of curvature essentially corresponds to the maximum winding (T) including the sheath wall thickness, whereby carrying shoe (5, 5') can be adapted in its position to the size (position of the periphery) of the sheet winding (W') which is wound and present each time.
