A luggage lock comprises a hasp rotatably mounted to one container section, and a locking ledge carried by the other container section. A permutation locking mechanism is mounted on the hasp and comprises a plurality of manually rotatable adjusting disks, and a plurality of rotatable locking disks coupled to associated ones of the adjusting disks to be rotated thereby. Each locking disk includes a peripheral portion positioned behind the locking ledge when the locking disk is in an on-lock condition to prevent the hasp from being rotated to an open position. A code resetting mechanism enables the adjusting disks to be rotated relative to the locking disks to change the code.

Permutation lock for containers such as suitcases

A closure mechanism for suitcases comprises a counter-closure part, and a closure part releasably securable to the counter-closure part. The closure part comprises a base plate and a hasp of generally U-shaped configuration including a pair of legs interconnected by a bight arranged to engage the counter-closure part. The legs define a first pivot axis about which the hasp is pivotable. A handle is pivotably mounted on the base plate for rotation toward the base plate about a second pivot axis. The handle includes first and second mutually inclined lever arms. The second lever arm carries a lift pin located below at least one of the legs of the hasp. A pair of coupling links are pivotably connected to the handle such that rotation of said handle toward a hasp-opening position causes the hasp to be rotated about the first axis by the lift pin. The links are disposed in substantially a dead center position relative to the second pivot axis when the handle is in a hasp-closing position to resist inadvertent opening of the hasp.

Closure mechanism for suitcases or the like

A permutation lock includes a housing in which are disposed a plurality of rotary dials and a dial locking spring. The spring includes a base strip and a plurality of spring arms projecting therefrom, there being one spring arm per dial. The base strip is secured in place by means of the forces applied to the spring arms by the dials. Those forces urge the base plate firmly against a floor of the groove by swinging the locking spring about a fulcrum.
