A heating apparatus for a heat exchanger system includes a manifold having a plurality of burners, a shutoff valve, a first controller and a second controller. The shutoff valve divides the manifold into a first manifold portion and a second manifold portion. The first controller selectively controls the communication of a fluid within the manifold. The second controller selectively actuates the shutoff valve between a first position and a second position to control a firing rate of the plurality of burners.

A method for removing humidity from air comprising the steps of providing an air conditioning system comprising a continuous circuit through which a refrigerant flows from a compressor, through a condenser, through a heat exchanger, through an evaporator, and returning to the compressor, providing a bypass valve through which a portion of the refrigerant flows around the heat exchanger, providing a bypass circuit through which a portion of the refrigerant flows from a point upstream of the condenser to mix with the refrigerant at a point downstream of the condenser, providing a discharge gas valve for controlling the portion of the refrigerant flowing through the bypass circuit, measuring an outdoor temperature and a relative humidity, determining a cooling stage and operating the bypass valve and the discharge gas valve to remove a portion of the humidity from the air based upon the outdoor temperature, the relative humidity, and the cooling stage.

Two phase or subcooling reheat system

A method for operating a vapor compression system includes the steps of providing a vapor compression system having a compressor circuit including a compressor having an inlet port and an outlet port, a circuit incorporating the compressor, a condenser, an evaporator and an expansion device for sequentially generating a cooling refrigerant for cooling a stream of air so as to provide a dehumidified cooled stream of air, and a reheat refrigerant for heating the dehumidified cooled stream of air to provide a reheated dehumidified stream of air; controlling discharge pressure from the compressor outlet so as to increase discharge pressure from the compressor outlet. Furthermore, system dehumidification performance is improved in terms of latent capacity boost, undesired sensible capacity reduction, latent efficiency enhancement, and recovery of supply air temperature to a desired level.

Control scheme and method for dehumidification systems at low ambient conditions

A vapor compression system includes a vapor compression circuit including a compressor, a condenser, an expansion device and an evaporator communicated along refrigerant conveying lines; an evaporator air reheat circuit communicated with the vapor compression circuit for reheating air from the evaporator; and a refrigerant subcooling circuit communicated with the vapor compression circuit for subcooling refrigerant from the condenser, whereby humidity in the air from the evaporator can be controlled while system efficiency is maintained by the refrigerant subcooling circuit. The system further enhances system unloading capability, and part-load operation and reliability are also enhanced.

Humidity control and efficiency enhancement in vapor compression system

A conventional air conditioning system has a heat recovery device installed therein such that the return air from the space is passed through a heat gaining portion thereof, and the resupply air passes through a heat rejection portion thereof. Substantially 100% outside air is passed through the heat rejection portion thereof where it is cooled prior to passing through the evaporator coil and to the space to be cooled. After the return air is passed through the heat gaining portion, it is passed through the condenser coil and then discharged outside. A subcooler is preferably provided downstream of the evaporator coil, and an evaporative cooler is preferably placed upstream of the heat gaining portion of the heat recovery device to provide substantially improved cooling and dehumidification characteristics.

In an air conditioning system designed to operate in relatively high humidity conditions, an auxiliary unit, including a complete and independent operating refrigerant circuit, is installed in air flow relationship therewith such that outdoor make-up air is caused to flow first through an auxiliary evaporator coil then through the system evaporator coil, and at least a portion of the return air is passed through an auxiliary condenser coil before being discharged outside. Energy is thereby recovered from the return air, and the make-up air is pre-conditioned to improve the dehumidifying effect of the system.

Make-up air energy recovery ventilator

A high latent cooling control assembly for a compression-expansion air conditioning system employs a subcooler coil disposed in the leaving air side of the indoor air evaporator coil. A liquid line branch supplies condensed liquid refrigerant from the condenser to the subcooler coil, and a flow restrictor, which can be a TXV, drops the sub-cooled liquid pressure before the refrigerant reaches the expansion device associated with the evaporator coil. A bypass line connects the condenser to the expansion device, and has a liquid line solenoid valve that is humidistat actuated. When dehumidification is called for, the solenoid is closed and refrigerant flows through the subcooler coil. When the humidistat is satisfied, the solenoid opens and the refrigerant path bypasses the subcooler coil. The high latent subcooler assembly can be field-installed or retrofitted onto an existing air conditioner.
