Systems and methods are provided for using a user wearable device having a first radar array configured to perform elevation mapping of a three-dimensional environment and a second radar array configured to perform azimuthal mapping of the three-dimensional environment which is divided into a plurality of voxels. Based on a detected triggering condition of the radar arrays, systems and methods are provided for dynamically updating at least a sub-set of voxels of the plurality of voxels in the three-dimensional environment at a new voxel granularity configured to facilitate an improvement in a resolution of one or more features included in the three-dimensional environment.

Synthetic aperture radar for head mounted displays

To track an object with radar, and achieve greater than range resolution precision, the phase of a difference signal can be utilized and adjusted as the tracked object crosses between resolution ranges. Changes in the object's distance can be detected with greater than range resolution precision by utilizing the phase. Such changes can iteratively inform the determined distance across multiple phase cycles within a single distance range. As the movement of the object approaches, and then crosses, between resolution ranges, the phase as determined within an origin resolution range can be compared with a coincident phase within the destination resolution range and the difference can then be utilized to adjust the phase as the object then remains within the destination resolution range. Such phase adjustments can be applied across multiple resolution ranges, allowing for the tracking of an object, utilizing radar, while achieving greater than range resolution precision.

Radar tracking with greater than range resolution precision

Systems and methods are provided for tracking a passive controller system using an active sensor system within a mixed-reality environment. The passive controller system includes a body configured to be held in a hand of a user, as well as a plurality of retroreflectors that collectively provides at least 180 degrees of reflecting surface for reflecting a radar signal in at least 180 degrees of spherical range when the passive controller system is positioned within a predetermined distance from a source of the radar signal and with an orientation that is within the at least 180 degrees of spherical range relative to the source of the radar signal. Signals transmitted to the passive controller and reflected back from the passive controller are used to calculate the position and orientation of the passive controller system relative to the active sensor system.

Metallic, electrically conductive, structures on smart glasses, which can be utilized to provide structural integrity and/or thermal dissipation capability, can be leveraged to provide antenna capability as well. Metallic structures on smart glasses are utilized as antenna grounds, with corresponding antenna elements being electrically coupled thereto, and located on the glasses temple. Such antenna elements implement folded antennas having an antenna length selected in accordance with desired communicational frequencies. A shorting pin establishes the electrical connection to the antenna ground. Metallic structures on smart glasses are also utilized as antenna elements, with different metallic structures acting as the antenna ground. Such antenna elements implement monopole antennas having a length selected in accordance with desired communicational frequencies, and a width that can maintain structural integrity and/or thermal dissipation capability. Multiple antenna elements are manufactured onto a single glasses temple, and both temples of the smart glasses comprise antennas.

A system for facilitating secure communications accesses a secure element in response to determining that an authorized user operates the system. The system causes a light emitter to emit an output light signal for detection by a second system. The output light signal is emitted according to a predefined field of view, which operates as a constraint to prevent devices outside of the field of view from detecting the output light signal. The system also configures the light detector to detect a second output light signal emitted by a second light emitter of the second system. In response to (i) detection of the output light signal by a second light detector of the second system and (ii) detection of the second output light signal by the light detector, the system enables secure communication between the system and the second system.
