A horizontally polarized antenna may be mounted or operated with a vertical axis of the antenna being substantially perpendicular to a plane defined by the surface of the earth, and still emanate an electric field that is parallel to the surface of the earth. Use of horizontal polarization may improve communications reliability by reducing interference from predominantly vertically polarized signals in overlapping and adjacent frequency bands. Also, a vertically polarized antenna may be mounted or operated with a vertical axis of the antenna being substantially vertical to a plane defined by the surface of the earth, and still emanate an electric field that is vertical to the surface of the earth. A horizontally polarized antenna and a vertically polarized antenna mounted with their vertical axes collinearly aligned, but both antennae physically separated, provide a compact dual polarized unit emanating vertical and horizontal polarized electric fields.

Multi-band dual polarization omni-directional antenna

Horizontally polarized and dual polarized antennas are described herein. In some examples, a horizontally polarized and dual polarized antenna may be mounted or operated with the physical vertical axis of the antenna being substantially perpendicular to a plane defined by the surface of the earth, and emanate an electric field that is parallel to the surface of the earth. The antenna may have a multi-slot aperture that reduces a variation in the far field omni-directional pattern. The antenna may have various cross-sectional configurations, and may have a radome at least partially surrounding the antenna and a supporting structure.

Multi-slot common aperture dual polarized omni-directional antenna

Antennas that can transceive signals in a horizontally-polarized, omni-directional manner are described. In an example embodiment, an antenna comprises a spiraling surface having a spiral cross-section, the surface forming an internal cavity, an internal channel to the external surface, and an internal wall common to the cavity and the channel. Further, an example embodiment comprises a longitudinal opening allowing access to the cavity and the channel by a transmission feed line. Alternate embodiments comprise various cross-sectional configurations, and may also comprise a radome at least partially surrounding the antenna spiraling surface and supporting structure.

Spiraling surface antenna

Antennas that can transceive signals in an elliptically-polarized, omni-directional manner are described. In an example embodiment, an antenna comprises two elements proximally located to each other at a predetermined distance, such that two orthogonally-polarized omni-directional electromagnetic waves are tranceived. In a further example, the two elements are supported by an internal printed circuit, the printed circuit including conductors configured to supply a feed to the elements, which may be contained within a radome. Alternate embodiments comprise a plurality of elements of varying lengths.

Compact circularly polarized omni-directional antenna

Example embodiments for antennas that can transceive signals in horizontally-polarized omni-directional manners are described. In an example embodiment, an antenna includes a tube forming a slot and a supporting structure on which one or more transmission lines and at least one ground are disposed. In another example embodiment, an antenna includes a horizontally-polarized antenna assembly including at least one slot aperture antenna and a vertically-polarized antenna part.

Horizontally-polarized omni-directional antenna

E-plane omni-directional antenna is described. In an embodiment, a transmission signal connection system includes a center conductive rod to communicate a radio frequency transmission signal, and includes one or more outer conductive rods that each provide a grounded return for the radio frequency transmission signal and shield the center conductive rod. The center conductive rod and the one or more outer conductive rods also couple a first antenna element to at least a second antenna element, and the center conductive rod couples the first antenna element and the at least second antenna element to the radio frequency transmission signal. Each antenna element includes coplanar waveguide dipoles that generate an e-field transmission which are combined to form an E-plane omni-directional transmission pattern.

E-plane omni-directional antenna

In an implementation of antenna assembly, an antenna element is formed with a front plate that has slots for wireless communication signal transfer, a dielectric material, a channel guide that is designed to confine the dielectric in a position that aligns the dielectric with the slots in the front plate, and a back plate. The front plate, channel guide, and back plate are attached together to enclose the dielectric within the channel guide to form an enclosed dielectric channel. An antenna assembly includes one or more of the antenna elements.

In an exemplary apparatus implementation, an electromagnetic lens includes: an input section including multiple input probes and a curvilinear input reflector; an output section including multiple output probes and a curvilinear output reflector; and a coupling section including a coupling slot and a curvilinear coupling wall. In another exemplary apparatus implementation, an electromagnetic lens includes: a first layer; a second layer adjacent to the first layer; the second layer including multiple input probes, a curvilinear input reflector, and a first curvilinear coupling wall; a third layer adjacent to the second layer, the third layer including a coupling slot; a fourth layer adjacent to the third layer; the fourth layer including multiple output probes, a curvilinear output reflector, and a second curvilinear coupling wall; and a fifth layer adjacent to the fourth layer.

Electromagnetic lens

In an implementation, an E-plane omni-directional antenna element includes five coplanar waveguide dipoles that are each configured to generate an e-field transmission. A center section of the antenna element couples the five coplanar waveguide dipoles to a radio frequency transmission signal such that the e-field transmission from each of the five coplanar waveguide dipoles are combined to form an E-plane omni-directional transmission pattern.
