A method for determining a length of a span of electrically conductive material, comprising a first voltage measurement across the entire span, and a second voltage measurement across a constant-length segment of the span. The dual measurements allow the calculation of the span length in a manner that is robust to many disturbances including ambient temperature, material temperature, and material stress and fatigue.

Dual measurement displacement sensing technique

The present disclosure provides fibrous composition comprising a soluble or a dispersible N-halamine, for example 1-chloro-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-4-imidazolidinone (i.e., compound I). Additionally, the disclosure provides methods for producing the fibrous compositions comprising a soluble or a dispersible N-halamine as well as methods for protecting a person from an infection using the fibrous compositions comprising a soluble or a dispersible N-halamine. The compositions and methods according to the present disclosure provide several advantages, such as stability, less time to provide sufficient antimicrobial inactivation, and are inexpensive and require lower amount of active concentrations to be effective.

N-halamine containing fibrous compositions and uses thereof

An electro-optical-mechanical tether to transmit both optical signals and electricity to and from airborne and other movable devices from a base structure, in which the tether includes a mechanical strengthening core covered by a first intermediate compressive layer which is helically wrapped by a plurality of electrical and fiber optic conductors, which constitute an second intermediate layer of the tether, and a outer protective layer.

A retrieving device includes a body with at least one respiratory passageway formed in it through which a dog can breathe when holding the device in its mouth during retrieval. In some embodiments, the body includes two radially-large end sections that are harder for dogs to grasp with their mouths, two radially-midsize lateral sections positioned therebeween each defining lateral respiratory passageways for side-breathing by the dog, and a radially-narrow middle section positioned therebeween defining a forward/transverse respiratory passageway for front-breathing by the dog. In use, the respiratory passageways decrease obstructions to enable the dog to breathe more freely to avoid overheating and associated problems. In addition, one or more flotation elements can be provided in the body so provide buoyancy for the retrieving device in the event it's launched into water during retrieving activities.

Breathable retrieving device

A retrieving device includes a body with at least one respiratory passageway formed in it through which a dog can breathe when holding the device in its mouth during retrieval. In some embodiments, the body is hollow and in the form of a shell defining an internal cavity that functions as a lateral respiratory passageway, with communicating respiratory passageways formed through the shell. In other embodiments, the body is solid with internal respiratory passageways formed through it. And in still other embodiments, the body has surface features (e.g., grooves or other thinned portions) that function as external respiratory passageways. In use, the respiratory passageways decrease obstructions to enable the dog to breathe more freely to avoid overheating and associated problems. In addition, one or more flotation elements can be provided in the body so provide buoyancy for the retrieving device in the event it's launched into water during retrieving activities.

N-halaminehydantoinyl epoxide compounds which can be used for the construction of coatings and materials which can be rendered biocidal by exposure to halogen solutions either before or after curing the coating or material are disclosed. The biocidal coatings and materials can then be used to inactivate pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, as well as virus particles, which can cause infectious diseases, and those microorganisms which cause noxious odors and unpleasant coloring such as mildew. The coatings are compatible with a variety of substrates including, but not limited to, cellulose, chitin, chitosan, synthetic fibers, cement grout, latex caulk, acrylic films, polyurethanes, plastics and paints.

Biocidal N-halamine epoxides

Novel acrylamide and methacrylamide hydantoin monomers which can be reacted with other acrylamide, methacrylamide, acrylate, and methacrylate monomers to form copolymers, which upon halogenation, provide oxidative coatings which are biocidal for use with various materials including, but not limited to, textiles, filters, and latex paints.

N-halamine acrylamide monomers and copolymers thereof for biocidal coatings

N-halamine compounds which contain hindered amine and amide functional groups. Compounds include wherein X, X', and X&#x2033; independently are H, Cl, or Br, wherein no more than two of X, X&#x2032;, and X&#x2033; are H and wherein R, R&#x2032;, and R&#x2033; are independently alkyl groups containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or hydrogen, and X and X&#x2032; are independently H, Cl, or Br. Compositions comprising the compounds are also described. The compounds and/or compositions can be used, for example, for the purpose of constructing biocidal coatings and materials. The biocidal activity can inactivate pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, as well as, virus particles.

Biocidal siloxane coating material containing N-halogenated amine and amide functional groups

A fabric forming device including a stationary yarn supply and a rotating yarn supply, each delivering yarn to a common point along a vertical axis where they are interlaced. The stationary yarn supply includes a plurality of yarn carrying cones which are arranged along a common horizontal plane about the vertical axis. The rotating yarn supply includes a plurality of yarn spools mounted with a rotating plate about the vertical axis. A plurality of vertically moveable guide members which are adapted to engage with the yarns of the rotating yarn supply act to selectively alter the horizontal path along which the yarns travel. The guide members act to control the yarns of the rotating yarn supply to be selectively positioned to pass above or below the cones carrying the stationary yarns so that the yarns interlace in a desired manner.
