Machines having a boom or arm pivotally disposed thereon wherein the length of the boom or arm and the angle thereof with respect to a reference plane are adjustable by means of actuators are well known. However, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to simultaneously control the actuators in a coordinated fashion to move the end of the boom or arm in a straight line path. In order to overcome this problem, a boom control system for a boom according to the present invention controls the actuators in either of two modes of operation, the first mode of operation comprising independent control over each actuator to afford polar coordinate operation and the second mode of operation comprising synchronized control over the actuators so that the end of the member may be moved in a straight line. Means are provided for manually selecting one of the two modes of operation. Means may be provided for calculating the amount of remaining horizontal throw of the boom or arm when a command to move same is issued.

Boom control system

A proportional plus integral servo-reversible speed control for use in a system driving a load in either a forward or reverse direction of travel at a desired output speed. The servo-reversible speed control includes a control handle for providing a command voltage having a magnitude proportional to the desired output speed for travel in the reverse direction and having a magnitude inversely proportional to the desired output speed for travel in the forward direction. A pulse pickup device and frequency to voltage converter provide a voltage proportional to the actual output speed, the actual speed voltage being applied to both an inverting and noninverting amplifier. The actual speed voltage is applied as feedback to a proportional plus integral circuit from the noninverting amplifier for sensed travel in the reverse direction or from the inverting amplifier for sensed travel in the forward direction to provide a closed loop speed control for travel in one direction, down through zero speed and up in the opposite direction. The proportional plus integral circuit is responsive to the command voltage and the actual speed voltage gated thereto to generate a speed control signal which maintains the output speed of the system constant.

Proportional plus integral servo-reversible speed control

An anti-stall control for use in a system having an engine which drives a pump to supply fluid under pressure to a motor and including means responsive to a control voltage for altering the flow of fluid to the motor. The anti-stall control senses the speed of the engine and generates a voltage proportional thereto, the speed voltage being compared to a reference voltage for providing a D.C. signal proportional to the speed voltage. A quick dump/slow recovery circuit is responsive to a decrease in the amplitude of the D.C. signal for generating a control voltage which decreases at a fast rate to prevent overloading of the engine, the circuit being responsive to an increase in the D.C. signal for generating a control voltage which increases at a slow rate to improve the stability of the system.

Anti-stall control

The present invention is directed to a torque control with overspeed regulation and a method of controlling a hydrostatic drive for use in an auxiliary wheel drive of a vehicle which has both primary driven wheels and auxiliary driven wheels. The torque control permits maximum torque drive of the auxiliary wheels when the primary driven wheels slip but yet prevents overspeed operation of the auxiliary wheels. Preferably the torque control with overspeed regulation has both an aggressive control and a sensitivity control so that the auxiliary wheel drive can be selectively modulated with respect to the primary wheel drive.

For use on a vehicle having a split torque transmission, the split torque transmission including first and second throughputs and a summing junction connected to the first and second throughputs and having a transmission output dependent upon the first and second throughputs, each throughput having an input connected to an output of the engine of the vehicle, the system including a sensor adapted to sense the output of the engine, and a controller connected to the sensor and adapted to control the second throughput dependent upon the engine output, the second throughput being controlled from a negative value cancelling the first throughput to a positive value so that the transmission output is varied from idle to a predetermined value.

Split torque transmission control

A frequency detector for detecting the frequency of vibration of an apparatus is disclosed having a first vibration sensor for providing a first output having a first frequency response to the vibration, a second vibration sensor for providing a second output having a second frequency response to the vibration where the first and second frequency responses envelope the desired frequency of vibration for the apparatus, a difference sensor connected to the first and second vibration sensors for providing a third output dependent upon the difference between the first and second outputs, and a load which is responsive to the third output.

A proportional control system for controlling a condition at a setpoint is disclosed wherein the system has reset for substantially reducing system droop and incorporates reset windup limiting, the system having a setpoint apparatus for establishing the setpoint for the system, a feedback circuit for supplying a feedback signal in accordance with the condition, a reset circuit connected to both the setpoint apparatus and the feedback circuit for substantially reducing system droop, the reset circuit for supplying a reset output signal, and the reset circuit having a reset windup limiting circuit for limiting reset windup of the reset circuit.

A steering system is disclosed for steering the wheels or tracks of a vehicle, the system having an optical control apparatus for controlling the steering of the wheels or tracks, the optical control apparatus being profiled optically so that, in the turn, the steerable wheels or tracks are steered around a common center.

Photo electrically programmed steering control

In a slope control apparatus for the working tool of a motor grader or other earth working machine, the slope sensor used for controlling the slope of the tool is mounted on a revolving platform the attitude of which is corrected by a factor related to the rotational angle of the tool about a vertical axis and also related to the angle of the tool with respect to the line of flight axis of the machine. The apparatus is mounted in a fashion to allow the tool to be swung to a vertical position without damage to said apparatus.

Slope control system

A time-proportioning control system is disclosed for controlling an on-off solenoid valve of an earth-working machine, the system having a sensor responsive to an external reference for producing an error signal, an amplifier switch for switching on and off the on-off solenoid valve in response to the error signal and a capacitive feedback circuit connected from the output to the input of the amplifier switch for controlling the on and off times of the solenoid valve dependent upon the magnitude of the error signal.

Time-proportioning control system for earth-working machines

A system is disclosed for maintaining, in a predetermined horizontal orientation, the support assembly for supporting an earth working tool to an earth working machine and comprises a cam surface and a cam sensor mounted between the support assembly and the machine wherein the cam sensor has a follower for following the cam surface to maintain the support assembly in its predetermined horizontal orientation. Earth working machine with elevation control for tool thereof

In a slope control system for the working tool of a motor grader or other earth working machine, the slope sensor used for controlling the slope of the tool is mounted on a resolving platform below the front axle pivot of the machine to provide anticipation of the deviations of the machine from the gravity reference. The attitude of the slope sensor is corrected by a factor related to the angle of the tool with respect to the longitudinal axis of the machine.

A steering control system, for a land vehicle which is supported by right and left side propelling means for independently driving the vehicle, comprises a steering control apparatus for turning the right and left side propelling means for steering the vehicle and a frame distortion sensor which relieves any stress on the vehicle frame by controlling the speeds at which the left and right side propelling means drive the vehicle.
