A power feed device for use with a hand held sewer and drain cleaning machine having an elongate, coiled cable and a rotating means for rotating the cable, the power feed device comprising two rollers rotatably mounted on housings, the housings being rotatably mounted within a body of the device, biasing means for biasing one of the housings and thereby one of the rollers toward the cable, cable centering means for centering the cable between the two rollers, means for rotating the roller housings from a 'NEUTRAL' position wherein the axes of rotation of the rollers are parallel to the axis of rotation of the cable such that when the cable is rotated in the first rotational direction the cable is not moved along its elongate axis relative to the rollers, to a 'FORWARD' position wherein the axes of rotation of the rollers are skewed to the axis of rotation of the cable and such that when the cable is rotated in the first rotational direction the cable moves along its elongate axis in a first direction, or to a 'REVERSE' position wherein the axes of rotation of the rollers are skewed to the axis of rotation of the cable such that when the cable is rotated in the first rotational direction the cable moves along its elongate axis in a second direction which is opposite the first direction.

The fluid pump has a casing defining an inlet manifold, an outlet manifold and a plurality of piston chambers between the inlet manifold and the outlet manifold, each piston chamber having a piston therein for drawing fluid into the piston chamber from the inlet manifold and for pumping fluid out of the piston chamber into the outlet manifold, and a spring biased check valve associated with each piston chamber wherein a spring biases each valve toward the piston chamber and seals the piston chamber from the outlet manifold, the improvement comprises: at least one of the check valves having a hole therethrough which provides open communication between the outlet manifold and the piston chamber, blocking and sealing structure associated with the check valve for blocking and sealing the opening, and a mechanism for moving the blocking and sealing structure between a first position wherein the hole is blocked and sealed and a second position whereby the hole is not blocked or sealed, such that when the blocking and sealing structure is in the first position, liquid is prevented from flowing from the outlet manifold back into the piston cylinder and thereby causes fluid to exit the pump in a continuous flow and when the blocking and sealing structure is in the second position fluid can flow from the outlet manifold into the piston cylinder and fluid exits the pump in a pulsed or vibratory flow.

A power unit for a conduit cleaner. The conduit cleaner has a motor with a housing carrying a shaft that is rotatable about an axis. The motor operates in response to the introduction of a pressurized fluid. The housing has inlets for admitting pressurized fluid and an outlet to permit the discharge thereof. A nozzle is connected to the housing and is configured to direct fluid from a pressurized supply to the housing inlet and direct fluid discharged from the outlet out of the power unit. The nozzle has a substantially cylindrical outer surface. In one form, the nozzle does not project beyond the cylindrical outer surface. Accordingly, a compact unit can be made according to the present invention. The absence of radially projecting structure also avoids protrusions that may intercept roots or other foreign matter within a conduit and thereby interrupt free movement of the conduit cleaner through a conduit.

The combination of a fluid operated cleaner, to be directed into a conduit to remove obstructions in a passageway defined by the conduit, and a manipulator. The conduit cleaner has a frame which has a connector for a fluid supply conduit. The manipulator is connected to the conduit so that the manipulator and fluid supply conduit can be used together to reposition the conduit cleaner at a location remote therefrom. Between the manipulator and the fluid supply line, the user is given substantial flexibility in reorienting the conduit cleaner to allow it to be introduced to the entryway of a remotely located conduit.

A drain cleaning apparatus has a cylindrical drum containing a supply of flexible line suitable for cleaning a drain. A frame is provided for rotatably supporting the drum and, in addition, the frame mounts a motor for rotating the drum relative to the frame and a control unit for selectively advancing cable from the drum and causing the cable to move back into the drum as the drum and cable length are rotated in use. The apparatus includes a wheeled cart which can be connected to at least one of the frame and drum for releasably operatively connecting the cart and the one of the frame and drum to allow the cart to be used to transport the drum and frame as a unit. Alternatively, the cart is adapted to be releasably connected to the drum to allow the drum to be transported by the cart without the frame.

A valve unit for producing pulsed delivery of a fluid from a supply to a point of use. The valve unit consists of: a valve housing defining a main fluid chamber and inlet and outlet openings communicating with the main fluid chamber; a piston movable between first and second positions within the main fluid chamber for blocking incoming fluid flow from the inlet opening through the main fluid chamber to the outlet opening with the piston in its first position and for allowing free communication of incoming fluid flow from the inlet opening through the main fluid chamber to the outlet opening with the piston means in its second position; structure for repetitively moving the piston back and forth between its first and second positions in response to a fluid being supplied under pressure at the inlet opening, there being a charge of fluid discharged through the outlet opening in the time interval in which the piston moves out of its first position, into its second position, and back to its first position; and bleeding structure for communicating fluid from the inlet opening to a location downstream of the piston with the piston in its first position.
