A floatable device having a ridged body containing a plurality of tie points near the edge and a substantially central orifice. Several bodies may be tied in series to form a ladder for ingress and egress of boats. The body may be filled with closed cell foam to sustain buoyancy if the ridged body is pierced or cracked. The body may be tinted a bright, safety color. The ties securing the blocks together may be whipped with a clamp having a tapered end to prevent the knots from slipping.

Mandrel-cured, curved elastomeric hose is provided with an indexing mark that is formed prior to or during curing of the hose on the mandrel. The rigid curved mandrel has an exterior hose-bearing surface and an interior cavity. The cavity and exterior surface are connected by a small passageway or hole which is located where the index mark is to be made on the hose. A sleeve having a wall of uncured elastomeric material is mounted on the mandrel such that a portion of the sleeve covers the passageway. The mandrel having the sleeve mounted thereon is placed in an autoclave and subjected to steam pressure. The steam pressure forces elastomer material into the passageway and thereafter cures the elastomer sleeve into a hose. The pressure inside the cavity is approximately atmospheric at the introduction of the steam pressure. The cavity within the mandrel may be sealed except for the passageway or the cavity and the passageway may be vented to atmospheric pressure.

A mandrel assembly for vulcanizing an elastomeric vent tube within the bore of a larger elastomeric filler neck hose having a complex, multi-curved configuration comprises an elastomeric flexible vent tube mandrel and a metallic filler neck mandrel having a groove oriented longitudinally along the curved surface of a depth for receiving a mandrel mounted vent tube therein such that a portion of the tube outside surface is in intimate contact with the bore surface of the filler neck hose when it is mounted on the filler neck mandrel. Upon vulcanization, the elastomeric mandrel is pulled out the vent tube and the filler neck hose is pulled off the filler neck mandrel with the vent tube being integrally joined to the filler neck hose bore at their contacting surfaces.

A filler neck for mounting between a fueling port and a fuel tank provides fuel entry into the tank and venting of fuel vapor from the tank while being serviced from a fuel dispensing nozzle having vapor recovery means. The filler neck comprises a reinforced rubber filler hose having a bore diameter sufficient for receiving the nozzle while also providing a vent path for fuel vapor from the tank through a vent hose mounted inside the filler hose bore. The internally vented filler neck is adapted for crash-proof fuel tank assemblies and eliminates multiple connections necessary on externally vented tanks. A mandrel assembly is also disclosed for making the internally vented filler neck.
