A method for channel smoothing with transmit beamforming includes transmitting, by a first device, a non-data-packet (NDP) frame to a second device. The method also includes receiving, by the second device, the NDP frame and transmitting a compressed report to the first device. The method further includes receiving, by the first device, the compressed report and deriving a first beamforming matrix from the compressed report. A second beamforming matrix is generated employing a processing known to the second device, and a data frame is transmitted to the second device using the second beamforming matrix.

Channel smoothing with TX beamforming

An apparatus includes a demapper to receive a number of bit streams received by multiple radio-frequency (RF) antennas. The demapper can compute a first reliability metric associated with a first stream and a second reliability metric associated with a second stream. A channel decoder processes the first and the second reliability metrics to recover decoded data. The demapper is a reduced complexity demapper and uses a symbol subset of the first stream to compute, by employing look-up tables, the second reliability metric for the second stream.

Reduced complexity soft demapper for multi antenna communication system

An apparatus includes a demapper to compute a reliability metric associated with a number of bit streams received by multiple radio-frequency (RF) antennas. The apparatus further includes a channel decoder in a feedback loop with the demapper to process the reliability metric and to provide a feedback signal to the demapper. The demapper is an iterative demapper and can use a symbol subset of at least a first stream of the plurality of bit streams and the feedback signal to compute the reliability metric for a second stream of the plurality of bit streams.

A method includes receiving an input signal carrying transmitted values by a receiver, which includes a decision device that produces estimates of the transmitted values. The input signal is filtered using a forward filter to produce a forward-filtered signal, and the estimates of the transmitted values are filtered using a backward filter to produce a backward-filtered signal. The decision device is applied to a composite signal produced from the forward-filtered and backward-filtered signals, so as to produce the estimates of the transmitted values. An accuracy of the estimates of the transmitted values is assessed, and coefficients of the forward filter are adapted depending on the assessed accuracy.

Turbo equalization for diversity receivers

A method includes receiving a symbol modulated with multiple bits according to a signal constellation including multiple constellation points. A soft metric is computed for a given bit in the symbol: A first constellation point closest to the received symbol according to a distance measure is found. A row or column of the constellation points, which is closest to the first constellation point according to the distance measure, and over which a value of the given bit is constant and is opposite to the value of the given bit in the first constellation point, is identified. At least the identified row or column is searched for a second constellation point that is closest to the received symbol according to the distance measure. The soft metric is calculated based on the first and second constellation points. The value of the given bit is reconstructed based on the soft metric.

Demapper for rotated QAM constellations

A method for communication includes receiving a signal carrying data including multiple data units using at least first and second reception channels. The data units are encoded with first and second codes such that, when the data units are arranged in rows and columns, the rows are encoded with the first code and the columns are encoded with the second code. The data units received by the first and second reception channels are selectively combined to produce composite data, which includes at least one row or column that includes a first data unit received from the first reception channel and at least a second data unit received from the second reception channel. The first and second codes for the composite data are decoded, including the at least one row or column, so as to reconstruct the data.

Disclosed is a method, circuit and system for adapting a receiver to receive chain based on characteristics of a received signal. There is provided a circuit and system for wireless data communication along a given radio frequency (RF) carrier frequency or a plurality of carrier frequencies from the set of available carrier frequencies. Communication signals may be transmitted and received along a given channel (i.e. a RF signal with some bandwidth centered at a given carrier frequency or a plurality of carrier frequencies) or a plurality of channels from the set of available channels. According to further embodiments of the present invention, the circuit may include an RF transmitter for wireless data broadcasting.

Method circuit and system for adapting a receiver to receive chain components based on characteristics of a received signal

A method includes, in a receiver that operates using multiple clock signals having respective clock frequencies, accepting a request to receive a target channel frequency. In response to the request, a set of preferred clock frequencies is calculated, which when applied by the receiver will cause the receiver to tune to the target channel frequency while satisfying a predefined criterion relating to interference caused by the clock signals. The target channel frequency is received by setting the clock signals to the preferred clock frequencies.

A method of processing a DAB audio stream, the method comprising: receiving a compressed and modulated DAB audio stream comprising a plurality of audio frames encoded with scale factors and a DAB-CRC error detection code for indicating errors in the scale factors; demodulating the DAB stream; and processing the demodulated and still compressed DAB stream responsive to the DAB-CRC of at least one audio frame of the plurality of audio frames; by determining a trend in values of scale factors and repairing or concealing the error in the scale factor responsive to the trend.

Disclosed is a radio frequency (RF) receiver for receiving a communication channel modulated on one or more carrier frequencies. The receiver may include a gain adjustable RF amplifier, a wideband signal power measurement circuit, and control logic. The control logic may be adapted to use outputs of one or more measurement circuits to classify interfering signals based on measured signal power and spectral proximity to the one or more channel carrier frequencies, and to adjust the gain of the radio frequency amplifier based on the classification.

Method circuit and system for adapting a receiver receive chain based on detected background noise

A tuner for a wireless receiver is provided, which may include an input interface that is adapted to receive wireless signals, a mixer that is adapted to select a specific frequency from signals received at the input interface, and a controllable switch that is adapted to lead an output from the mixer towards a base-band unit of the receiver and to disconnect the output. The tuner may further include a controller which may be adapted to operate the controllable switch to disconnect the output of the mixer when the controller studies characteristics of the tuner and to reconnect the output of the mixer at other times. The studied characteristics may be associated with parasitic direct current voltages in the tuner, which may be associated with a low noise amplifier of the tuner, or programmable gain amplifier of the tuner or with both amplifiers. The controller may cause a compensation direct current voltage to be generated and applied to the mixer's output based on the ratio between programmed gain and actual/measured gain of the programmable gain amplifier.

Method for tuning an RF base-band circuit of a receiver

A receiver is provided, which is adapted to receive MPE-FEC frames and to correct erroneous sections within a received MPE-FEC frame by detecting unreliable sections and storing in an erasure list ('ESL') table compressed data that includes the base address of each detected erroneous section, together with the respective section's size. The size of the ESL table may be fixed, or it may correlate, or dynamically change according to the actual number of detected erroneous sections. The data stored in the erasure list may then be forwarded to a decoder to correct erroneous sections. The erroneous sections may be detected by using CRC, and the decoder may be a Reed-Solomon decoder. If the application data table of the MPE-FEC is error-free (or full or errors), in which case the erasure structure list is empty (or full of errors), in which case the erasure structure list is empty (or full), this means that no FEC reception and error corrections are required, because there are no sections to correct in the first case and the decoder is incapable of correcting too many sections in the second case. Therefore, the receiving circuitry, or at least the decoder, may be disabled to save battery power.
